Does your wife, girlfriend or significant other, have a clue about the visa changes and what it could mean to them?
The potetnial of martial law?
For example eizure of all forieng bank accounts. I doubt that it would happen but they certainly could do just that.
There has been a whole lot of uncertainty produced in the last six weeks.
Now my guess is everything at least in my case is going to work out just fine.
However that is not true everyone in the country. Some one in a another site I beleive brought up the oil workers, constant in and outs with month long stays in between. Many have homes here a well as families.
If it did go bad I ther is no way I can support two himes in two different countries, therefore I suggested to the wife it is time for her to get a passport. For the life of her she could not see the need for such a thing in the future.
I have made what adjustments I can reduced my monthly deposits by 30%, which qaulifies me for the visa. But this wa o money being saved and spent in Thailand. Now it sets in my homecountry as a potential war chest may be needed in another country. It wont 'be the states. it will be in Asia.
In four years in Thailnd I have seen three major changes in visa requirements, and a military coup. That is enough for me to pay attention. But a I said it will probably all work out just fine. But if your not prepared it could be a heck of a mess, if it were to go the other way.
I don't in any form expect the wife to plan for something like this, but it would be nice to have her support and understanding in trying to make sure no matter what she is going to be OK. But she does not see the need, who knows she may be right.
On the other hand if she i wrong it is a huge mess for her as well. I doubt that she really would look forward to going and working in rice fields anymore.
OK I have done waht I feel like I needed to do protect my family and I'm off to ahave fun. hope you guys have a great weekend.
