OT's dongle

Postby old-timer » August 27, 2010, 9:01 pm

OT's gotta tell everyone about his new 3g orange dongle.
Now, you all thought that Udon was a bit out in the sticks, well OT can tell you via this laptop and internet connection that I am more out in the middle of nowhere and can watch you tubes etc without the slightest buffering.
Two things:
It's five PM
b0llocks to the second thing.

I pay, lets say in thai money, 1200 baht for the month. So far so good, fast and reliable.

The info is for Uganda and as far as I am aware, 3G is just being introduced or is going to be introduced in Bkk...

So I am curious to hear from OT how he gets his fast internet, everything that is better than my GPRS (no youtube) would be fantastic.

OT works in Uganda and has only used it there so far. I was told that it can be used anywhere there is 3G. But you are quite right Peterplay, 3G on orange is not in thailand yet, 3G is available in Thailand with true move who supply iphones.
It's about time Thailand caught up.

I thought that it was going to be at least 3 years before 3G available ANYWHERE in Thailand. Something to do with the sale of the licenses.

Not 3 years Statto, but certainly not this year..
The committee to oversee the sale of 3G licenses has to be legally formed first. That will probably not happen till early next year. Then the bid process has to be gone through. Finally the successful bidders will have to set up the networks.
There is talk that some of the current 2G suppliers are looking at converting some of those frequencies to a sort of hybrid 2G/3G in the interim. I would think this would possibly be available around Bangkok only though.

On most occasions i would agree with you, but maybe not on this occasion Statto...
There is a lot of money involved in the sales.
On the political front I would be highly surprised if the sales were not all 'done & dusted' well before the current Government has to go back to the polls.. :D :D
There are huge savings in Government fees in the companies making the switch to G3. As they are going to have to pay out huge fees to buy the licences I am sure that G3 will be available very quickly once allocated!! :D

Agreed there is a lot of money involved, that's why I think ......

The committee to oversee the sale of 3G licenses has to be legally formed first. That will probably not happen till early next year.

And then it will be objected to by someone probably wearing a different coloured shirt from the guy in charge of the committee, so the process will start again,

Then the bid process has to be gone through.

That will never happen at the first time of asking without someone claiming that backhanders have been given by someone to someone which will have to be investigated.

Finally the successful bidders will have to set up the networks.

If they havn't already descided it's a waste of time as 4G had been available to the rest of the world for years by the time they get to this stage
