Our little hero mutt

Postby Bump » December 31, 2006, 1:16 pm

We have a Thai mutt, hardest headed animal I have ever ran across tough as nails. But he brings a lot fo fun and enjoyment to our house, But he has this uncanty ability to find snakes. I don't know if he smells them or what. Yesterday about dusk, he went just nuts. If it's passerby that he doesnt know usually doesn't take much to get him to stop barking. But he just would not stop we checked didn't see a thing and he just kept at it. Then we saw the problem a brown snake about 18 inches long lying right in the gate track, we would have never seen him. This is the third one he has alerted us to.

We ended up sweeping him down the street, wife wouldnt let me kill it. I asked if it was dangerous, wife didn't know. But still wouldn't let me kill it, I have mixed feelings about that one, But if I knew it was dangerous I would have killed, but I didn't know.

There are times these pets do things for us that we can't do. I'm glad we have the guy. He seems smart enough not to get in striking distance cause that certainly is the posture this snake took, it wasn't just going away. Letting us knw about the intruder is good enough.

No it opted to live in the drain, probably lots of things to eat there. Eventually I think it will find it's way out, where it goes who knows. I'm sure you will get your own wiht no help from us

Well those sites are now bookmarked since I have had encounters four times wih snakes in homes here. I would say nonposionous coundn't say exactly which one but none in the othe catergory resembled it except the brown colored cobra. This did not hood up when it coiled to strike, so I don't think that was what it was.

Thanks I will spend sometime getting familiar with the line up, something good to know here.

In the Southern deserts of California a little easier since the one who would do you in rattled.

Sometimes they rattle after the fact and that's a little bit too late. Sometimes they don't rattle before or after. The only thing that's consistant about rattlesnakes is they're inconsistant.
