Outlook Connector

Postby johndischert1 » January 20, 2011, 10:33 am

Does anyone have any idea why my Outlook Connector (32 bit) will not work? I have used it in the states, here I get server not available. I have Outlook 2003, windows 7 with TOT ADSL, could they be blocking it in anyway? I have deleted and reinstall several times with no results... Looked on many forums etc with no help found. I am using the standard Microsoft firewall.

Thanks for your help!

Not really sure if I can help, sorry John as I have never used for personal e-mail accounts.
As far as I understand you cannot access the web e-mail accounts through it - yahoo, hotmail, gmail etc. so it is not much use to me...

What sort of error message are you getting when you try & access it??

I understand that there is an Outlook 2007 available. Have you tried updating to that version??

The sever is not available. Contact your adminstrator if this problem persists. That's the message I get if I try to open the live email folders in Outlook and the server status on the lower bar never shows connection. I can go dirrectly to the web based version, but prefer Outlook to do the sync between Outlook and the .live email account.

As you say a lot of people asking this question & not many answers...
I did find this one & do not know if it will help you. As Outlook is not working at the moment anyway for you it is maybe worth a try??
1. Right click the Outlook icon on the desktop and choose Properties. Click E-Mail Accounts, click View or change existing e-mail accounts, and then click Next.
2. In the "Outlook processes e-mail for these accounts" in the following order list, click the Exchange Server e-mail account, and then click Change.
3. Under Microsoft Exchange Server, UNselect the Use Cached Exchange Mode check box. 4. Finish up the wizard.
5. On your computer, search for and delete any OST files
6. re-opening outlook
7. Tools, Send Receive, Send Receive Settings, Define Send Receive Groups, Edit, then checking what folders should be available in the OST. It will also ask you to set up offline folders, so just follow the prompts. This recreates a fresh OST.
8. re-enable cache mode (Tools - Email Accounts - View or change existing e-mail accounts, and then click Next. Follow steps 2-4 above.
9) restart outlook

I have looked at your instructions, It does not apear to work for MS Outlook 2003. Right click the Outlook icon on the desktop and choose Properties. Click E-Mail Accounts, click View or change existing e-mail accounts, and then click Next.
When I do this there isn't any tab under properties E-Mail Accounts...

Thanks anyway...

I am sorry that it did not work John...

Bit of a 'live & learn' day for me on Outlook today I must admit.
I said above that you could not connect web e-mail accounts through it & that might of been true of the older versions, but not of the latest.
I discovered that I have Outlook 2010 as part of my Windows 7 package.
I am in the process of adding 2 e-mail accounts to it - 1 from Hotmail, 1 from Yahoo.co.uk
It has added all the Hotmail posts & is currently in the process of adding the Yahoo ones.
That is using a wireless link to 3BB & Windows 7. So it does not look like it is probable that the ISP is blocking the connection...

Well Bob I appreciate the update 2010 Vs 2003. So does anyone have any idea why my outlook connector is not working? Even my POP3 when using the test mode shows "unable to connect to the internet or the network" but the email pop account works fine despite that warning..

STMP settings could not be right? check if you are using STMP or a POP server, go back and check the settings required by your ISP mail server

I have to use a special port 587 (I think) to send and receive

If you cant beat the system, try www.mail2web.com that service is good for using at an internet cafe

Outlook Connector does not use a pop or smtp server, it is a MAPI connection. Still looking for answers.

I'm no techy but what is this ?

A cursory search says this:-

With Outlook Hotmail Connector and Outlook 2010, you gain these additional benefits:

Your Safe Sender List/Blocked sender list/Safe Recipient lists are synchronized between Outlook and Hotmail.
Send/receive works like your other Outlook accounts.
Your Hotmail account status appears in the Outlook status bar.
Rules work with the Hotmail account in Outlook even if it’s not your primary account.

Seems a rather odd first post/topic ?

Well I finally got everything to work. I guess I am not that skilled with ADSL connections, used to cable in the states but when I set up/added a broadband connection in IE. Everything started working correctly. Now the question is different, when I set up my modem originally, all those settings are in the set up... Like password, User Id etc. Should I have known that you needed to also add a broadband connection in IE. or was the first process (setting up the modem) normally complete at that stage. All things indicated I was connected correctly. Web worked, email in the Pop account sent and received. I would appreciate it if you would let me know where I went wrong or did I..

Thanks

John
