TIP: Be sure check the spelling of the name on any documents translated in Udon. If the spelling dont match the english spelling on the passport its next to worthless. We have been stung twice.

Have had the same problem not in Udon in Phuket. Check the documents best you can I think as long as you cannot find a problem in the translation all should be ok.

I used some translated docs for the wifes visa which had errors I did not pickup until we were in Australia will no problems. I had sent documents back to get the first lot of errors fixed did not check as good the second time round. I should have known I do the samething myself leave a couple on big easy fix problems so the client can find some mistakes and they do not look at all the small problems.

Extract DIMA website RE: Eligibility for tourist visa

Children under 18 years of age
Consent to travel:
Applications for children under 18 years of age must provide consent from the non-accompanying parent/s or legal guardian/s if the child is travelling:

•alone
•with only one parent or legal guardian.
Consent can be provided on Form 1229 or on a Statutory Declaration or equivalent under the relevant law of the child's home country.
See: Form 1229 Consent to grant an Australian visa to a child under the age of 18 years (81KB PDF file)
Note: Evidence must be provided to confirm family relationship or guardianship, for example, full birth certificate stating names of both parents.

It's all about the prevention of a child being abducted by a parent who may not have legal custody - there were several high profile cases in Oz a few years ago. So I guess the Oz government does not want the reverse occurring.

As far as an Australia departing from Oz, you cannot get a passport for a child, or have a child put on a parent's passport, without the consent of the other parent. If there is a subsequent break-up of the marriage, details of both parents will be put on an immigration check list at the airport.

I have never had a problem taking the kids out of Australia. Their mother has full custody legally, but they live with us (long Story) she signed the page work 4 years ago so they could get their passports. Have not being questioned when leaving Australia.

In Australia each child must have their own passport cannot be added to the parent's. I do not know if this has always been the case but it is now.
