My mate John is staying there he was raving about the Pakalang mansion last night. He really recommends the hotel and can't get over the price. We were watching Chelsea stuff Notts Forest in the FA Cup, at the Irish Clock. He is having a house built in Udon, and will be moving from KK.

Ree knows the owners, attended their wedding a few months back, maybe i can get a discount , can 290 get any cheaper.

Does anyone know if tuk tuks are easy to find around the Pakalang Mansion?

Perfect, 290 Baht is great. If I want to go out in Udon and get drunk I dont need to ask anyone in the village for a ride home. And the chickens wont wake me up, fantastic.

It is about 4 Km. into the centre of Udon from here. I am sure that reception would be happy to arrange a tuk tuk as there isn't a great deal of alcohol available in the immediate area - unless you are going to slip into Makro...

The #2 Songthaw is out front on the main road. This will get you as far as the first roundabout on Posari Rd. Or cross the main road and take the #2 to Big C. There is also nice ranarhan, Kruamaghang, down the street between Macro and the fruit market.

4 Km on that way, that´s almost halfway to my girlfriends village Tong Yang. Maybe there is another hotel in Udon instead which is cheap enough.

No beer near and a 4km walk to town.

While I could do with the diet, detox and exercise - I'll give this place a miss.

Rob there are some places that sell beer near to it (Jingjoes isn't very far away for example & there are certainly some Thai restaurants around) just not much choice for a typical Falang . I would be happy to stay there as long as I had some sort of transport available (even bike hire) as the ride into the centre of town is very straight forward.

Looks like a balancing act. On one hand places further out have more rooms and places in the hub of the action only have a few.

Will have to take the weather into consideration aswell - as beginning of the rainy season in May I believe (I will be there til the 23rd)

I guess about 0.5/0.75 km to there buternut.
