Hi padeakin.....back to your original question yes your X-Box will work in Thailand. I have a US PS3 that I always bring with me when we stay at The Irish Clock to play games and also to watch movies. Almost all of the TVs in Thailand, and that part of the world, are multi-system.
nkstan....(my wife and I met you and your family last year August when we were there for vacation at the Night Market...sorry I forgot your first name

I'm guessing Stan?) anyway I believe the problem lies in your DVD player. I have a couple of older $1,000 DVD players in the other rooms that are very picky because of there age...even though they are all region. And I have thousands of copied DVDs. My new $100 Sony will darn near play anything I throw at it. What I suggest is that you take a few of the DVDs that you're having problems with to one of the stores (whoever is selling DVD players and you think you can get a good deal) and try them there on the spot. I'm sure most of the stores have the players hooked up to a TV for demo so you can just use one of them to try your DVDs.
Also if anyone has a DVD player that is locked out to 1 region only the website you can go to to unlock most of the players to all regions is
http://www.videohelp.com/dvd hacks . All you do is enter the brand and model # of your player and most are there. If you don't see your particular model # you can usually try the code to a model that is close to yours. I've done this over here in Saudi Arabia for many people and the only ones I haven't been able to unlock yet are a few of the new US Blueray DVD players.
