Very much like the western world. - It only covers injury to the 3rd party eg. passenger, pedrestrian, persons in the other vehicle. Not property, you (the driver), your vehicle, the other persons vehicle etc.
1st Party is the insurance company
2nd party is the driver
3rd party is the victim.

BD hero, Display of the PLB sticker is no longer required, they don't give you one anyway. But as they will not inssue the Tax sticker without proof of that the PLB has been paid for the sticker was deemed not required. BTW it was certainly required in Bangkok.
You are supposed to carry the PLB policy with you. Display of the 1st class insurance sticker is not mandatory.

Thanks for that, I also posted this on TV and had the same response.

I know the insurance is required in BKK, nation wide for that matter, but can't ever remember seeing the sticker. They have a fancy road tax sticker displaying their number plate detail and other info.

Just for clarification it's pronounced - Por Lor Bor

We have started to run into one sticker for the bikes this year instead of two. , seems to be the case as to bikes anyway.

On bikes in most cases third party liability is the best you can get. It seems to ebe possible to get full coverage on bigger newer bikes, through dealers who sell them

Must admit was shocked when the missus told me if I ever have an accident with a motorbike, thai riding it ,even if it was his/her mistake then I would have to pay for everything! Having just bought a new car not sure whether I am being wound up or not. So farangs have no chance claiming under their insurance.I do have a mobile phone with camera and if it ever happens will take many photos.
With new car no insurance sticker with my insurance documents so best just hand the police everything in case they ask for it with your d/l.

Whatever you do as far as a car is concerned keep your insurance company phone number handy (normally located on their advertising sticker). In the event of a prang whether it's your fault or not call them and let their rep handle everything, don't say anything to the police and make sure your car is locked as in the confusion the unscrupulous will try to steal something or take your keys. Even out here in the back blocks a rep will be on hand within the hour.

With all due respect to yuor wife, she is mistaken. I have had an accident where the Thai driver was at fault. Piad for nothing. The advice given as to having the phone number is sage advice. Don't panick the cops will want you to settle quickly. That is not how it really works.

If the cops can't reach a settlement then it goes to court, simple as that. Trust me Thai' dont want to go to court either. Let the representative handle it.
