Pattaya! Who needs Bangkok?

Postby polehawk » February 25, 2008, 7:48 pm

Took a R&R trip to Pattaya last week to check out latest shopping, restaurants, movies (in English) and just laze on the beach. End result was that we saw no reason to make our usual stop in Bangkok on the way back to Udon.

What's new in the much maligned "Sin City" resort? Villa Market (opened last October) has a wide assortment of those hard to find (in Thailand) food items such as Maxwell House Coffee, Pop Tarts and Cream of Wheat cereal, to name a few. Store has a better selection than their outlet on Soi 11 Sukhumvit in Bangkok IMO. New store is located at the Avenue Complex on Second Road near Soi 12 or bottom floor that houses the California WOW Fitness Center. Noticed that an Asia Books outlet is planned to be opened in this mall in the near future, also. Saw the latest Denzell Washington movie, "American Gangster", with Russell Crowe, at the theater on the 4th floor of the complex. There are at least a couple more venues around Pattaya to watch movies in English, as well.

So many restaurants in Pattaya to choose from. We tried Bob's Texas BBQ for some tasty ribs and Mr 99 on Beach Road for seafood. Both were excellent and reasonably priced. Also stopped at a McDonald's on Beach Road whille on the trip but found their version of a Big Mac to be a disappointment. Burger King's Whopper, a few doors away, was every bit as delicious as you can get back in the states.

The beach is still fantastic and much more fun than in Florida, our last home in the US. There are a lot of vendors on the beach but friendly, for the most part, especially if they know you and your wife are visiting from Issan.

Nightlife on Walking Street and the sois? Guess someone else will have to provide that kind of info. Wife and I were usually back at the hotel by 8 or 9pm. Just wanted to point out that there are other diversions and entertainment possibilities in Pattaya. :D

Villa @ Suk Soi 11 is alive and well, even having a slight revamp.

Enjoy those 'Pop Tarts' nice and hot Mr P.

It's in Pattaya, Rito.

However, last time I was in the Bangkok Soi 11 Sukhumvit store, they did have smaller 1 lb cans of Maxwell House.
