Photos and classified

First, another tip of the hat to you and your staff for the work you do. The magazine keeps getting better with each issue.
I think I may have discovered why so many people have a problem figuring out how to load photos: (warning.....I'm using Opera, so this may not be the case with other browsers).
When you're intending to respond to an existing post, there's a white box at the bottom of the page that says (in blue color)"post a reply" (it has all the faces along the side). If you use that box to post a reply, there's no option to add a photo.
However, just above that big open white box, there's a small black/white box that says "post a reply". If you click on that instead, you will then be given the option boxes to attach a file.
This has tripped me up several times and it might be what's confusing other folks as well.

Second: if I click on 'view new posts' the listing will not show any updates to the classified section. Likewise, just looking at the page of categories (general, things to do, shopping, etc) there's no 'last post' column entry for the classified section. The only way I can know if there's a new posting is to actually open it up and look. Not a big deal, but it'd be nice if it followed the same format as the other categories.

Parrot, I'm sure Lee will pick this up in due course and give you a more comprehensive answer to your questions.

In the meantime, if you click on the blue "Post a Reply" button (that you mention), and open the "Post a Reply" box, - look down towards the bottom, below and to the left of the Preview and Submit button. Do you see/get an "Upload Attachment" tab? If you do and click on that you should have a box allowing you to browse for the photo/attachment you wish to add and an Add File button. That's the route I take.

You are quite correct there Parrot, the "post a reply" box on the actual thread itself is only meant to post a quick reply, whereas the "post reply" (not post a reply) button will take you to a fresh page where you can add photo's, edit and pretty much do anything you like to the text you want to post on the forum.

This is something that the coding of the phpbb forum developers have impregnated into the code for the site, and is the same or similar on most other forums all over the world. To change it would be quite a challenge, but I am sure that Lee would adopt the change if there was enough requests for it to happen.

The script used for the classified section is totally separate from the main forum, so I don't think the ability to view new classifieds from the 'view new posts' link would be possible.
I am pretty sure that the classifieds can be adapted to list the latest additions though, once again, I am sure Lee will look into it.

It's no longer a problem for me....I've broken the code. But for others, it would help if it said something like "Post a reply...without attachments" and "Post a reply....with"

Thanks parrot, that's good to hear.

With regards to the upload image issue, I agree it would be handy to have that option available in the quick reply box. It shouldn't be too difficult to add an imageshack image up-loader or similar.

The current classified script is an external program which works independently from the forum software, so there is no option to display latest adverts on the actual forum. I agree it would be handy to see the latest adverts posted without having to leave the forum page so I'll see what I can do.
