Police Prepare For Election Day Expat Sobriety Riots

Postby jackspratt » July 3, 2011, 12:27 pm

I just walked back from the Moo Baan polling station. All very quiet and orderly, with about 10 people in various stages of the voting process. 1 BiB in attendance.

Asked the guy crossing off the names if I could vote - he thought it was hilarious.

It should become more interesting later today when they start counting the votes. I observed this for a while after the last election, and was surprised how open and public the process was, with plenty of scrutineers keeping a very close eye on the proceedings. I guess that leads to a cleaner and more credible result.

Police Prepare For Election Day Expat Sobriety Riots

Postby Bandung_Dero » July 3, 2011, 1:10 pm

Mrs Dero is currently performing her duties as the local "Returning Officer". Went into Ban Dung yesterday evening to pick up the ballot boxes and then set up the polling station located at our Wat.

Went down at 06:30 this morning for final preparations. Everything is quite and going smoothly and guess what? Yep that's right they are all sitting around eating! TW, the various reps from the political parties, 2 x BiB, and a few others look to be having a great time and getting paid for it! Happy days.
