Political Correctness in Australia

Post by trekkertony » June 21, 2013, 6:38 am

There's an annual contest at Bond University, Australia, calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term.

This year's chosen term was 'political correctness'.

The winning student wrote:
Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rapidly promoted by mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of **** by the clean end.’
Give that student an A+!!! =D>

I would add that it is a Marxist Playbook Tool used to silence dissent and intimidate people to not speak the most direct and pointed truth.

"Political Correctness" is an oxymoron in it's purest form. "in Australia" can only be seen as a tertiary, reinforcing dimension

In Australia as in many other Countries we like to shorten words. Words like Aborigines and Australians.
Aborigines can call Australians "AUSSIES" but it is Political incorrect for Australians to call them "ABOES"
They get offended. What a load of rubbish?

That's what you call "far right." And you can. :D

Tyranny and Totalitarianism (total government control), whether socialist, communist or fascist is all far left, with Total Anarchy (no government control) to the far right. Democracies and Republics fall inside that continuum in various places, but we've had this discussion before, and we disagree. I'll leave it there.

And I've got news for you. Hitler was a socialist -- at least, that's what his political party claimed; and Stalin and Mao made Hitler's gas chambers look like junior high school when it came down to numbers massacred.

But this thread isn't about the murder of millions. It's about political correctness and the way the far left tries to manipulate the language to make their big government totalitarianism more palatable for the masses.

Exactly my point, FDK. We were thinking the same thing at the same time.

All totalitarian governments are the same with different names to cloud their purpose and mission.

You are incorrect WBU.
Fascism is Far Right Wing - I defy you to post 1 independent source that says otherwise..
It is Far Right because it believes that some members of society have an automatic right to a higher standard than others.
Hence the need to 'categorise' everybody into 'groups', rather than take people as individuals..

Frazee i am not quite sure where I my post I suggested that Mao et. all were anything but evil men.
It was not me that said that it was all a Communist plot, that was WBU!!
Your point would appear to agree with me that the 'Reds under the bed' fear that WBU has about 'political correctness' is a crock of ----...

ps. As you all appear to be so anti-political correctness can I ask you what you would do in order to ensure equality of treatment of all members of any particular nation??

Hitler was from the National Socialist Party, remember?

Since when does "far right" equate with automatic higher standards than others? Aren't the communist politburos elitists? Aren't the socialist bureaucracies elitist? Don't Marxists divide the masses by pitting the poor against the wealthy (99% vs 1% ring a bell?) and the workers against the bosses and the government against the evil private sector?

You singled out "far right" as being evil. I was just reminding you of your far left friends.

And if my view of political correctness is "a crock of ****" -- as you put it -- you can either refute it with something legitimate in a civil discussion or join some of the others on here who just throw around general statements. I'm really surprised at your comment. You know better than that, and you always require SO MUCH MORE FROM ME.

And don't forget, this is about political correctness. Let's stay on topic. 8)

You're entitled to your opinion, Bob. Have a good day. :D

National Socialist WBU, not International Socialism, or Communism. 1very different beast.
As I said.. 1 independent source...

WBU ALUM wrote: and you always require SO MUCH MORE FROM ME.
No more than you are demanding from LilRed on a couple of threads at the moment WBU... :D

However, back on topic...
If political correctness is so evil & a Communist plot....what is the right wing solution???

Like I said, Bob. We had this discussion a LONG TIME AGO. We disagree.

I don't have a right wing solution. I'm not an anarchist.

I have a correct solution. Speak truth. Sometimes truth is uncomfortable.

Example: Pro Choice really means they Favor Abortion. And those who are "pro-choice" usually don't want anyone to have a choice when it comes to anything else.

Example: Progressive -- the term used to describe big government regulation and control. Gives the feeling of moving forward and progress, but it is really restrictive and stifles individual liberty and creativity.

Example: Social Justice -- term used to soften the blow of wealth redistribution. Used to make the "Haves" feel guilty about their financial success in the hopes that they are shamed into giving up some of their labor.

That should do it. Again, have a good day, Bob. :D

How does vilifying the Washington "Redskins" as a slight to American Indians further the good of mankind?
How does taking the word "men" out of nouns identifying a specific category regardless of gender further the good of mankind?
How does allowing illegal aliens to have a drivers license further the good of mankind?
How does changing a "Christmas Tree" to a Holiday Tree further the good of mankind?
The list goes on and on and on and on........
What happens if you get scared half to death twice?

Yes, no more than I require from LilRed, but YOU are the one now slinging hash without being civil, not me.

I don't believe that I have ever referred to anything you have posted as Sh*t or BS or anything of the kind. We have disagreed, but I haven't ever been uncivil with you.

Ah tag team member 2 appears... :D :D

& where I have actually indicated that I feel that any of the silliness in the use of words that you quote is anything but a poor idea??

And what is your solution to the problem of inequality through race, creed or colour in a nation gudtymchuk??
I hope it is a better attempt than 'Speak the Truth'...
Another collection of buzz words that mean absolutely nothing when examined..
Whose truth is it?? Yours, mine??As can already been seen these are often very different things... :D :D

No one said you did.

You asked for my solution to political correctness. I gave it to you. I gave examples. You don't like them? That's cool.
:D What's your solution, Bob? If you don't think there IS a solution, then we don't have anything to discuss.

Political Correctness in Australia

Post by Barney » June 21, 2013, 9:59 am

The post started as a funny piece of work by a student and it was funny but because "political correctness" has the word political in it the subject always gravitates to one of the 2 things that muster argument Politics and religion. I grew up in Sydney Australia through the 60's onward and have seen the removal of the aussie larrikan talk all but taken away. Calls of "Racism" in our aussie way of describing or joking about subjects has been the buzz word for along time and is a major reason "POLITCAL CORRECTNESS" has destroyed the fun in general discussion.
There must be some funny examples others have where political correctnes has gone mad.

political correctness is here to stay but running along side now as what will be the big brother of it is a more dastadly phrase "ZERO TOLERANCE" the next limiter on freedom.
IMO

I wouldn't disagree with you Barney.

However for all the fun that people poke at 'Political Correctness' (& there are plenty of idiotic examples of lunacy to be seen out there) it is an attempt to solve a serious issue.
I have no problem people pointing out its' fallibilities, I think that is actually a good thing.

What is really needed is a better solution.
What is that, I have no idea, if I did then I would be clever than just about any politician anywhere in the world.

I fully do understand that doing nothing just does not work.
& removing all the social equality laws from the statute books would cause immeasurable harm.

So we are going to be stuck with something similar what needs to be done is find a way forward - not yearn for the past. When visited, the past is rarely the garden of roses it is often talked about as...

"Aussie larrikan talk" from the 60s (and much later) was always good fun in general discussion ............. except to those who were the subject of the talk, and when it was used derisively and with malice in public ie racism.

Is anyone really suggesting it is still OK to talk about "boongs" and "niggers", "slopes" and "slanty eyes", "spastics", "wogs" "kikes", etc etc?

If so, my suggestion is that it is time for vocabulary upgrade.

ps it seems the winning definition from Bond University should be the subject of a plagiarism investigation, as it has won at multiple universities around the world, going back a number years. :D
