Popeye was undoubtedly one of the most popular westerners in Udon.
While he certainly lived life to the full he was also one of the most helpful and unselfish expats that I have come across on my travels.
Although his language was frequently colourful (and would be considered by many today to be politically incorrect) when coming from him it was neither nasty nor malicious; there were no airs or graces with Popeye, you got exactly what you saw (and heard).
I will miss his company when I return to Udon.
RIP Popeye, you brought happiness to many.
