Post editing

Postby businessman » February 19, 2006, 3:10 pm

Would i be right in thinking that the inability to now edit posts is due to Tenbyboys mass removal of his posts?I now get the message "posts that have been replied to cannot be edited"

Thats strange. Out of curiosity I just tried it on one of mine in Open Forum. The edit button was still there. Perhaps the rules are different from Forum to Forum, accidentally or otherwise.

Once the post has been replied too, what reason would there be to edit it. The reply is to that perticular post as is, and editting the post could change the meaning of the post. There by making the reply or replies null and void, unless the replies are editted to fit the edited post.

Well it isn't just a reply to an individual post, just if another comes in before you can take action on your last posting, today for example I am still getting timed out when i submit a post, so I refresh and submit again, only to find my original on there already, no acknowledgement nothing, so I went to delete one only to be informed I couldn't because it had been replied to, but it hadn't, just another post came in at or a split second after mine.Thank you Lee, I see its gone now.

Edit is no longer available, but i think moderaters can still edit there own posts, (correct me if i am wrong), i only like to edit sometimes when i spot spelling mistakes . So maybe i will type more carefully.
And i know lee will edit posts for you if you want something edited.

Ahhhh OK bm, I thought outside the forum where a mod, the edit facility was the same, although I can see the reason why it's left available

Exactly, I go back if spelling mistakes or I've messed up the quote. Although, agreeing with Pop's, thats the only good reason (perhaps) to do it.

Are you sure? I have always been under the impression that members are able to edit their last post on a thread as long as noone has replied..in which case the edit facility disappears.

Moderators can only edit their own (and members) posts in the forum that they moderate, other than that it is the same as above, and they can only edit a post before someone replies.

Thats what (I think) I make of it anyway :?

Edit facility has been stopped over a week ago, yes you can edit, if a post has not been replied to,yes you could edit a post any time up until a week or so ago, and i am sure a mod can edit their own posts even if they are not modding on that topic. (correct me if i am wong) :)

Hmm, I see what you're saying BM, I cannot however edit any of my posts that I posted previously on this forum for instance, hence my thinking that it was because it was after someone replied to mine.

In which case I have no idea

But I can edit now, as noone has replied yet :?

See up Sean,

I can understand why this would be available to mods, I just don't know why you can't do it

Well I can assure you it wasn't me TC...best thing to do is contact the mod of the forum that you posted in..

And John, yep, I've seen the edit you made, it's just strange that my edit button disappears right after someone has replied...something to do with permissions methinks...
