Has anyone gone back to their home country and gotten a new one after the two years expired? Wonder if it's possible? Beats going through the renewal process, at Nong Khai anyway. Bangkok Immy looks more and more like the way to go.
Had a guy from Phuket renewing his in Perth when I did mine --- No worries a new 'OA' handed over by the Consulate's happy smiling reseptionist, nice lady :D

Here it is again on what was needed and not needed. Thanks for the heads up. I hope this helps others.

NEEDED:

Signed copies of a house book and I.D. card.

One copy of pertinent passport pages to include:
Front page
Page with original visa
Page showing the border entry stamp showing it is NON-O
Page with latest renewal stamp
Departure card, stapled in your passport

Letter from my Thai bank showing the balance and deposits for the last 3 months.

Copies of every page of bank book

Bank Book

Notarized US Embassy paper showing I have required income (good for 2 years).

1 Photo (I took 12 just in case... plus they were really good photos :D )

NOT NEEDED:

ATM slips or proof of incoming money (because I had notarized US Embassy paper).

Proof of foreign bank statements.

Medical certificate.

A Sunday walk in the park! I made the dreaded trip to Nong Khai and the Force of Four were wearing pink t-shirts, smiling and laughing. Asked wife if they were laughing about farang sex life but she said no. Used Mainer (Lloyd)'s list as a guide and it was spot on. I did take along two copies of everything which didn't hurt. The lady who sits third to the left from the window took about 20 minutes to check over my package and stamp my passport. A minimum of stress and anxiety. I will have no qualms using this office again next year.

Yesterday I went to the main branch in Udon for Bangkok Bank to get the required letter and they have it down pat, in/out in 15 minutes.

Thanks, Lloyd.

Thats right, plus the posted office hours say they open at 0830,but the man and woman that sit to your left ,while facing them, get there at 0800 and start working!

That women,in #2 seat, has always been nice and helpful about answering questions even though they are continually talking to each and laughing back and forth as they are working on your papers! If you catch a break in their personal chatting, you can ask her a question

I don't know whether or not those 2 will ask for house papers, med cert. and a ''detailed letter'' from the bank(as opposed to a simple letter stating your balance, which I always use in BK)when applying for the retirement visa extension as they are not required in BK for a retirement extension, but of course, can be requested by an immigration officer if they choose!

Maybe someone ,that has used these two for their extension, can post the experience!

It seems to me,from many of the posts, that some officers at NK immigration, require the same paperwork that is required for the marriage visa extention for the retirement visa;proof of residence, combined proof between a ''detailed list'' of all money transferred into the country in letter form and bank book pages copies including the matching balance, etc. etc.

It is always nice to be prepared for whatever comes up,if possible

The woman in #2 seat took care of me yesterday. No medical certificate needed. She was satisfied with copy of landlord's ID card and house paper. Bank letter wasn't as detailed as I expected, just shows transfer deposits from overseas bank since first of year and closing balance that has to match your bankbook. Wife and I have a joint account here so had to provide a copy of wife's ID and our marriage certificate.

Just glad it turned out so well. My contingency plan was to be on the night train to Bangkok if they gave me any flak.

Stan - I got my retirement extension yesterday at Nong Khai and met with the man on the right. I was in and out in 15 minutes with my extension. I had no medical certificate and used a simple bank letter - one paragraph simply confirming my bank balance. I provided a copy of my yellow book but he simply glanced at that.

Polehawk ,did you extend a retirement visa or marriage visa? And I am still not clear if you were required to have a ''detailed''letter and proof of residency or not!

Bamakmak,it sounds like you had ''Mr.Happy'',the one most people complain about! So from your post ,it seems like you caught him in a good mood, but again ,I am not clear! Were you required to show the Yellow house book or proof of residence?

I am asking because I always go to BK and proof of residence, med cert. and ''detailed letters'' are not needed! But I was considering going to NK this year in August!

This was actually my second consecutive year of getting "Mister Happy"! Each time, I'm always expecting the worst after hearing all of the horror stories. But each time went just fine - must be that charming smile of mine!!

About the yellow book - he didn't ask to see it but I had made a copy and put it in with my other papers. He seemed to take virtually no notice of the copy and did not ask to see the original. He didn't put any check marks on it the same way he did my bank letter and bank statements. He barely glanced at it.

Stan, I extended my retirement visa. The letter I got from Bangkok Bank was as "detailed" as they wanted to see, contained all of the foreign transfer of funds in my account since January although they made sure that the ending balance agreed with the last entry in my account book. Proof of residency? I'm a renter so a copy of my landlord's ID card and his house book were all they wanted to see.

The only "wrench" in the works for me was that my wife and I have a joint bank account so they wanted to see her Thai ID card and our marriage certificate for whatever reasons. It helps a lot to be prepared for any eventuality.

The guy on the far right side was noticeably smiling and affable. Heard no cross words at all. I wouldn't hesitate going locally for your next extension. There's always the "contingency plan".

I arrived at Nong Khai Immigrations about 8:45 am, Monday morning. This is my 4th extension, the first 3 were in support of Thai spouse. After he did my paper work, and figured out my finances, he said that can approve a Retirement visa now. I don't have to wait for my approval from BKK. So I went with the Retirement visa. Out on the road by about 9:30 am with passport stamped. FYI, he is Mr. Smiley the one that sits next to the window. The place was also very busy when we got there. A couple of farangs that were at the desk and processing their visa extensions before me, were still there when I finished and left immigrations.

Same as last year, 2 photos, 2 TM7's filled out, copies of - marriage certificate, bank book, letter from bank, TW ID card (if married to a Thai), passport, yellow tambian book (if you have one, include it), TW's tambian. I think that is all we had, maybe more. They did look at the taxes she paid last year and the shop's income from last year. Since my income alone comes to 860,000 Baht per year, they asked if I wanted the retirement visa now. I didn't have to wait for the approval from BKK. THEY MAY ASK FOR OTHER PAPERS!!!!!

Retirement visa extension done today in Nong Khai with ''Mr.Happy''(next to the window)

Letter from the bank, one paragraph stating the account # and the balance.

Bank book with a copy of each page including the first page with name and acct.#

Medical certificate,no longer required!

Proof of residence, copy of the landlords house paper and a copy of the landlords ID card, both signed by the landlord and stating my name as resident!I asked him why they needed proof of residence in Nong Khai versus never needing it in Bangkok?''New,must be able to find you''!(I did not find him unpleasant at all)

Passport and copies of all my passport pages!

Filled out application with a recent photo,no glue,he stapled it to the form!

Filled out 90 day report,as the last one was extended 21 days to coincide with my extension renewal date!

Got there at about 1115,the 2 guy in front of me took awhile as one was overstay 76 days! So,they all break for lunch now 1200-1300 and start all over again with new check-in numbers!I was 23 before lunch and they were doing #22 when the broke for lunch,I wound up with #4 after lunch and was out of there at 1330!
