Silly Season

Postby valentine » April 8, 2006, 9:08 am

Has anyone else noted that about this time every year we get a batch of new members who, fortunately , don't stay long, that are either, as Thais say, under baht, or are trying to wind others up.?Roll on summer :P

If
about this time every year
is the last six months, I would agree

Are newbies unwelcome in this forum? From reading some of the posts (including a few bitter exchanges) of some senior members over the same silly season, it seems that a few of the pots are calling the kettles black.

As another one of those "newbies" at first I read the initial post with a little surprise, I posted first on this forum with a question about a accomadation here in Udon and to my pleasant surprise not only did the members of this forum answer my question but 2 members actually took the time to go to the place and check it out for me, answered all my questions and more. I then realized that the posters might be refering to posts that are made just get a negative response by members, if thats the case then I totaly agree.

While I have yet to visit Udon, my first vistit will be next month, I feel like I have already been there just by reading the posts of many of the members here, so from this newbie to the " old timers" thanks a lot!!!
This is a great forum with a lot of good people on it.
short time as in short time till I can retire

As the original subject poster I better explain. The easiest way is to liken the forum to a huge mango tree that has a lot of fruit at this time of the year, the majority of which are very tasty and welcome, however occassionally you come across one that has a completely different flavour, it comes as a surprise, not like the rest. Fortunately they soon drop off and the rest of the tree still keeps growing, producing many enjoyable treats for years to come.
My original heading "Silly Season" was simply highlighting the fact that every year rounabout this time one seems to surface to amuse, entertain or even annoy some members, but was, in no way a reflection on all that join about this time. My apologies to anyone that took offense by my remark, it certainly wasn't intended. :)

OK thanks for your clarifications. I have a house in Udon and am working towards moving there permanently around mid next year, so the forum and its members are becoming increasingly relevant for me and I look forward to seeking your advice and opinions and contributing my six-penneth worth in the years ahead.

Has anyone noticed that our old friend "Mrnicey" was constantly referring to newspaper items from Bournemouth, Dorset.
Our new friend, "hellofriends", is from Dorset?
Just wondering.

I'm inclined to agree with you Gary, either way... Trolls aren't appreciated!

Wonder what a comparison of ip address(es) might reveal? Is mrnicey making a return performance? Let's hope not.
