Apart from Glen Johnson coming in most of the talk seems to be about who is going out. Alonso (unhappy with Euro/Sterling exchange rate), Arbeloa and then there is Mascherano's wife that can't find enough Spanish speakers in Liverpool so she wants to go to Spain. But he understands what it means to pull on the red shirt and play for Liverpool. He understands the history! He is like a Blackpool stick of rock, cut him in half and he is Liverpool to the core!

Liverpool may need to treble Javier Mascherano's wages to keep the midfielder at the club after signing defender Glen Johnson from Portsmouth. Mascherano is believed to be unhappy because he is paid less than most of his team-mates.

I'm sure they'll do a pay as you play deal for Owen.

Stoke City:

Tony Pulis has made a bold bid to sign Michael Owen, who will leave Newcastle following their relegation.

Goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has played down rumours linking him with German giants Bayern Munich.

"I have seen what has been in the papers, but have heard nothing personally," Sorensen said. (Setanta)

Stoke are set to sign Swedish U21 midfielder Andres Vasquez on a free transfer from FC Zurich. (Daily Mail)

Tony Pulis is said to be closing in on a deal for Real Mallorca striker Juan Arango.

Stoke will face competition from Newcastle and Wigan in their quest to bring Charlton winger Lloyd Sam to the Britannia Stadium.

Tony Pulis has said the club will have another look at Cardiff City's Joe Ledley this summer. The Welsh international is valued at £5 million.

Looks like Michael Owen is indeed heading for Old Trafford Zidane...   He will join a rare group of payers to play for Liverpool and Man. U.

Michael Owen is undergoing a medical at Bridgewater Hospital ahead of a proposed free transfer to Premier League champions Manchester United.

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker is out of contract at Newcastle and looks set to be Man Utd's second summer signing after Antonio Valencia.

Owen, 29, has been linked with Everton, Aston Villa, Stoke and Hull but now looks set for the Old Trafford club.

If all goes well, he will return to the training ground to sign his contract.

It is definite IA he is a Man U player...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/footbal ... 131801.stm

I must admit not the signing I was hoping for & maybe one will still happen.... :D
I am not sure how fit he is now, but maybe Alex has bought him to provide Rooney with a model on how to conduct yourself & Berbatov with a model of how to be a man. I guess if any of the qualities Owen has rubs off on either then it will be money well spent.... :D :D

But, in an even more surprising move

Dalglish makes Liverpool return

But (sorry to down your hopes IA) only on the staff

Personally I dont think signing Owen is a bad move.True, its a gamble but he's only likely to be the fourth striker and even at Newcastle he had a fair goals per game ratio......trouble was there wasnt too many games in four seasons !
With all due respect to the likes of Hull and Stoke I dont think Owen would have done well at either of those clubs. He thrives on good service and he is only likely to get that at one of the top teams.
But United definitely need one more top striker. One of the Valencia trio or Huntelaar of Real Madrid, maybe.

However,if United are struggling trying to find a big name striker, what about Liverpool ? Probably one of the main reasons they lost the title last season was because they never replaced Robbie Keane and when Torres was injured they only had Ngog and Babel to fall back on.(They might as well have played Irish Alan and souness up front as those two).
But this season they have only signed full back Glen Johnson, and he's not going to get you many goals !
Liverpool desperately need another top striker. They are probably in the running for one of the Valencia trio but the problem is so are Real Madrid,Barcelona and Manchester United.
Unless theres more to the Kenny Dalglish story than we are led to believe,of course. :D
