Mrnicey, I find it interesting that you will be traveling around Asia for about a year to sample the cultures and learn how expats live. Are you writing a book about this and if so what will the main topic of the book be? I too will be arriving in Thailand soon, January in fact.
I will be setting up a home base in Northern Thailand and plan to travel once every month or so to other Asian nations for research on a book I'm writing about the history of temples and their relationships to some of the oldest cultures in Asia. This should take me about two years and once I am done I plan on retiring to northern Thailand.
Perhaps we could exchange some information along the way. My target list includes but is not limited to; Laos, Cambodia, Burma/Myanmar, Malaysia, China, Viet Nam, India, Tibet, Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
