 It has been only about 10 months since you brought up the idea!maybe, everyone is waiting for you to get it started.Since you have the experience in your background, your the man!!!

So keep us posted,on your progress. In the meantime, there are a couple of other regular group gatherings where you might ''network'' about to meet some of us and determine whether we would make a good ''permanent club''!

Afterall it is a ''business'' you are talking about, and not many guys that I know are willing to ''invest'' in strangers!

I would have thought the Expat Club and the night market gatherings would have been more than enough for the amount of people in Udon who would frequent such places. Agree with Stan though, meet the people and then make an informed decision !!

Great idea in the West. But many of us don't want to be reminded of the Western club scene We came here to get away from that and many more things that remind us of our boring lives there!!

When in Rome ..... as they say . Within reason of course !!

I tend to agree with your sentiments exactly John ,, I think the sentiment behind the idea has good intenet ,, but I am sure most of us are familiar with that awfull scenario when on holiday in say ,,Spain where you go down in the evening after your dinner for a nice quiet drink with the missus only to be confronted in the bar by a bunch of drunken numpties with loud shirts on ,, fake bling hanging around their heavilly tattoed necks ,, talking as loud as they can in some stupid plastic Mockney accent ( pretending they come from Laaaaaaaaarrnnndddnnn )
No not for me I am afraid ,, now a social club meeting point minus the alchol , that would be IMO be a good idea

Ah evening all as one could say, here we go again trying to reactivate an idea that seems to have gone down the proverbial.
TRhere are so many diverse and interesting people in Udon that in fact I truly believe to set up a club would be a step too far for most people.
many of us have our own circle of friends that on the whole generate for some enough excitement one way or another. Some of us seek other venues to excite us, but never have i felt drawn to a place just to meet other foreigners.

The inital idea was basically a place where ex-pats of many nations could if they wished go for some succour and a chat, nothing more and from that it COULD grow into something akin to a club that provides for many and also a few if that was wanted.
Since then a few good ideas have serviced but always aimed at providing help for others like friends of udon or Udon our Home etc, these are good a vaild enterprises, but do miss the mark.
A club for ex-pats to meet chat and enjoy similar activities without feeling that one has to put ones hand in the pocket and provide money for someone else was what is really wanted. A place where one can escape the hum drum of Bars, and other such places a place which like the Naval Club and the Winchester club for good food, good company and a pleasing atmosphere. This would be a monumental task for anyone person to set up and would need a committe of like minded people to deal with it. It would have to neccessarily start in a small place and then grow as required .
This sort of club would require a membership fee of course nothing too expensive and entry to foreigners only . Like all clubs membership is restricted.
Initially no alcohol, nothing more than just a meeting then we could decide what and when and where, and what format we wanted.
it would be a club run by us for us and whatever we decide to give to whomsoever we would all decide. No links to anyone or anything, just purely an EX-pats club for Expats , now that is a novel idea ain't it. :D

His name was lars or erik something like that, anyway, he arranged a meeting at 2pm on a sunday at the private hospital at nong prajak. There was only 4 things wrong with that, the time, the day, the venue and no leo. I think hes still giving it a go though. OT would rather go to the NM meetings, have a laugh and talk a load of bollox, gawk at the birds serving the beers and get home p1ssed as a f@rt.

OT..... \:D/

From memory you are correct on both parts of his name OT. I believe it is Lars-Eric.
A Google of Udon Expats Club came up with their web site.
http://www.udonexpatclub.com/index.htm
I believe it is 600 baht a year to be a member which may have dissuaded some from joining.
