Car Park Thieves

Postby valentine » June 6, 2006, 7:21 pm

A story on Udon Dee news today revealed the existence of a gang of three targeting the vehicles parked in the open area at Big C, Tesco and Chareonsri Grand. The modus operandi has been the same in all cases. They sit in a vehicle and watch you park, if you don't have or set an alarm system, one of the gang follows you around the store ready to tell the others when your about to come out again, another whips round and gains entry whilst the other sits in their vehicle to coordinate proceedings. The latest hit was a pickup owned by a police officer and they took 2x 38 calibre guns, so now for sure they are armed.Be careful!!!!

Lets keep our fingers crossed and hope they sold them somewhere else. Did you happen to follow the murder of the Brit in Pattaya, on a botched robbery. One suspect in custody admitted everything and said they were doing it because it was fun and they made a little money at it and they only killed people if things went wrong, apparently the brit wasn't the only homicide they comitted whilst having fun.

Now that thought process is very scarey to me anyway.

Thanks for the heads up

yes i read that one...shocking, just doing it for fun....i am sure they just don't seem to care if they get caught. And if thats the case well there is no deterant, But that was pattaya and not a week go's by when i don't read about a mugging, stabbing, murder, robbery,Gun crime, rape etc. Whats going on.
i have seriuosly thought about not returning to pattaya been going there since 1988.
Is it just because i read the news in Thailand everyday on line that i know about these storys, i know these crimes have happened for years, but it seems to be happening more and more, and i think it will always be in the back of my mind if i do go. I used to feel as safe as House's in pattaya,in fact any where in thailand i would'nt think twice about walking around on my own at any time of day any where in LOS that i have been.

i know this is'nt udon news but the original post on crime/car thieves in udon made me think.

You know I still feel very safe in Udon, for it's size the crimes are very few here, at least involving farrangs. I wouldn't have mentioned the incident in Pattaya accept for the mind set. That is not a tourist related problem.

I would still enjoy going to Pattaya to me it's like going to Las Vegas, when I lived in the states seomthing I might do once or twice a year. It wa a nice change of pace. But the only beach places I have been so far are Pattaya, Pucket and Hua Hin.

So I still have few to see.

Udon had it' muggings for farrangs not that long ago, by what as I recall a youth gang same as the incident in Pattaya. Not that long a go there was a youth gang that was assaulting lone females on motorbikes as they got of work late, knock em off the bike steal thier purses and cell phones, guess that was fun to.

From my brief experience in living here, Udon has changed to some degree, but I think Thailand as a whole has as well. Nothing really drastic in the non tourist areas. The car park thing doesn't really sound violent, but if something goes wrong, it could turn that way very quickly.

The one thing that sounded favorable in the cops loss. I have guess they are not going to take that one lightly since it was one of the own. Two gun thats a lot of money for a cop here even with tea money.

That is one if it continues could be stopped with surviellance.

I really don't like the trend I'm seeing with youth but it could be very wrong wouldn't be the first time.

Maybe we could help ourselves a little. All the areas targeted were outside the covered car park areas. What do they all have in common. No surveillance cameras.
Maybe a thought to look up before we lock up!!!

I always park across the street, with the big bike it's almost impossible to park below. The pickup is so wide that if I use the parking below with my fat belly very hard to even get out of the pickup.

The open air bars face the parking area so lots of people can see any activities. I'm usally on the 750, I doubt that there are many there who don't know who the bike belongs to. Mine has always been helmet losses.

Not a lot of money but it gets tiresome. around town we use the cheapie, on road trip it's the high dollar ones. So I put two sets of helmet locks on both bikes.

I think they have security down there but they are so busy moving cars around so people can get in and out, even if they would watch I doubt they have the time.

Are they just stealing loose articles in the car, if so you might be able to avoid being a victim by keeping those articles out of sight in the trunk I can't imagine a guy leaving guns in plain view cop or not, but stranger things have happened.

If they are going for stereos, they must be pretty fast. and leave one heck of a mess, probably more to fix the dash then the value of the stereo.

According to the news item they just seem to be opportunists, grabbing whatever is in there, cameras , sunglasses, mobile phones etc and of course the guns.
The real answer is of course, install a security warning system. They would have to be real fast once that starts going off.
News update: two of the gang have been apprehended, both from out of town. Sakhorn something or other.
I have got to hand it to the local cops, they get the job done.Yesterday whilst parked in town a guy ran from the 7/11 store having snatched a ladies bag. He was still in sight when two cops on motor bikes screeched to a halt, viewed the situation and went roaring after him.Brought him back for ID by shop staff, then off to nick in pick up.In the UK we would still be waiting for the 999call to be answered.

Nice to hear something good said about the local coppers, frankly I have never ha probelm with them in the check points or anywhere else. But I have everything I need and I wear the helmet.

I couldn't have asked for fairer treatment in the accident we had :D

The sequel to the 7/11 incident. The guy had apparently opened a packet of biscuits and a bottle of coke and proceeded to devour them in the shop. When a lady assistant approached him, he removed his shirt, took out his ding dong and tried to embrace her, when they rang the cops , he legged it. He was previously employed as a security man and had lost two jobs for exposing himself to female staff. Obviously a dangerous nutter.

so what would happen to the culprit, how much time in the slammer would he expect to get for sexual assault and theft of the goods ?

I will check for sure tomorrow, but right now its up to the 7/11 lady. If she wants to proscute the police will. however their current thinking is if he pays for the goods stolen and a sum of money for the assault he will walk out, thats if hes got the money of course and providing the lady agrees. Its always a difficult decision with a mentally deranged person, prison or not?
