It may have already been answered but how do you find out what the little symbols are at the start of the topics, the stars, ticks arrows etc. in the little boxes.

Ticks are a new unread post
Star means it is a thread that you personally have made a post on.
So a tick & a star means that there is a new post on a thread that you have contributed to.
Arrow means it is a re-direct elsewhere - I think you will only see that on the Classified or Sponsor threads.
