Scripted Window on UMF?

Postby JimboPSM » February 9, 2010, 6:19 am

I was browsing through yesterdays posts and had got to the superbowl thread on “General topics on Udon Thani” when I noticed the following message:

? This website is using a scripted window to ask you for information. If you trust this website, click here to allow scripted windows...

I didn’t notice it appear so it could have been there for a while (I have never seen this message before on UM).

As I’ve no idea what a scripted window is or whether it is some kind of threat or completely harmless I did not click on it – the message disappeared when I went to the main menu.

I tried to repeat the sequence of what I was doing before the message appeared, but I have not been able to replicate its occurrence.

Anyone have any ideas what it was about?

Don't really know, but this is from the website of MS itself.

Message
This website is using a scripted window to ask you for information. If you trust this website, click here to allow scripted windows.

What it means
Internet Explorer has blocked a website from using a small program (called a script) to display a separate window. Hackers sometimes use scripted windows to mimic legitimate windows, such as login screens, that appear on websites. If you trust the website and want to allow the scripted window, click the Information Bar, and then click Temporarily Allow Scripted Windows. To always allow scripted windows, check the Allow websites to prompt for information using scripted windows custom security setting.

Not sure Jimbo - I am certain Lee will say later.
The only thing that I can think of that uses a scripted window is the PM message system, to say you have a new message waiting to read. If you clicked no to the script then all would happen as you say, but, eventually, you would see that you have a new message.. :D :D

It crossed my mind at the time that it might be something to do with a new PM (where I normally get a popup advising same), but I dismissed that as no "new messages"were showing then (or are showing now}, also there was no e-mail advice of a PM and, as a final check, I had a look in the message system as well - no new messages,

It was an unusual event whch I cannot explain so thought it worth posting (it may have more significance to Lee as he is the one most intimately involved with the site software).

Hi Jim, I've just done a little digging around on the net. Looks like it's IE8 related. I'm not aware of any scripted window on udonmap so I'll look into it and try to find what's causing it. I have a feeling it's the new 'add image to post' link, when you click this link it opens a pop-up window to postimage.org. It's a trusted site so nothing to worry about IMO.

To fix this issue in IE8 try the following:

In Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted Level > Custom
go through the script settings and enable scripting - this is just for sites that you have added to your trusted list so be sure you add the site you are trying to log in to exactly as the URL appears in your browser bar. It is most likely an ActiveX script so be srue you allow ActiveX scripts without prompting. But ONLY for trusted sites.

You also want to turn Pop up blocker off. Apply these changes and close IE. Open it back up and try your site again. You may have to play around with the scripting settings until you find the right one, so you may bave to do this a couple of times.
