I might say the shop does more than cheese - in fact they sell some of the "farang" food you could previously only get in Udon. Hopefully enough of us will patronise it enough to keep them going

Just a heads up on the Western foods sold in here. Visited today and very little in their fridges. What was , was very out of date, in some cases over 2 months over sell by date, and others that had a manufacture date were mostly made in Aug/Sept.Looks like they are clearing it out.

I had a pleasant experience at Tang Ngee Soon Superstore today...
I read on the "other" forum about Nana Foods: http://www.nanaproducts.com/ They produce locally both Italian pasta sauces and El Sapo Mexican Salsas. According to the thread on the "other" forum, Nana Food Products have recently become available at Tang Ngee Soon Superstore. I looked in their Western food section and couldn't find them.
I decided to ask to speak to the manager.
A very nice man, Khun Gop (I think he is a member of the owning family), came out to see what I wanted. I explained to him what I was looking for and why. He speaks excellent English.
I also told him that I have heard there were certain products available at the downtown store, Jiffy Corn Bread Mix, for example, but not available at the second store. I asked him why. His answer was that his brother likes to "test" new products at their original location.
I went on to explain to him, that the second location was much more user friendly for those of us that drive automobiles or trucks, IMO. He understood.
He took my telephone number, said he would call me, and he did.
He explained that Nana Food Products were still being unpacked and put into their system, and that they should be on the shelves in a day or so.
He also said he would do his best to get the Corn Bread Mix to his store.
I mentioned tortillas and told him there were a couple local (Bangkok) companies that produced them and he will do his best to start stocking them (he said he had been looking for them).
So, if anyone is looking for special items...now you know who to ask for at Tang Ngee Soon Superstore.

Khun Gop's customer service attitude is excellent. I only wish more of Udon's businesses would follow his example.
I also praised Tang Ngee Soon Superstore for not playing loud, blaring music.

What I especially like about it jingjai is the "no queuing to pay policy". Join a queue (behind someone unloading their trolley) & staff will immediately usher you to the next desk & open it up for you. I admit it is not as busy as the "Big" supermarkets, but they could certainly learn a thing or two about customer service from Tang Ngee Soon.
They are also cheaper by a few baht for identical products bought at the other supermarkets - more than a few baht on some of the Falang products.
I was in Big C Sunday (not something I usually do as it is just too busy). They were busy, but I noted possibly 20 staff to aid customers in the electrical area but only 10 pay stations open!!! Wrong way round I think

As Khun Gop promised, Nana Food Products are on the shelves as of today. They are located on aisle 27.
I bought a few bottles of the Italian sauces and a couple of bottles of the Mexican Salsas. I have not tried them yet, but looking at the sauces through the bottles, they look very good. Just the way I like them: thick and chunky.

I also brought in a few packages of empty locally produced tortilla packaging. Gop told me he would do his best to contact the producers and start stocking them.

He really did an awesome job of supply chain management, bringing Nana Foods to Udon!!!

The feedback we get on our pasta sauce has been very positive, we made some minor improvements a while back, but now all is stable and pretty much universally approved by our customers. We even have a few restaurants using our products now for some items on their menus, and have utilized our recipe page to expand their menus.

The El Sapo line is brand new, so don't be shy in making any suggestions. We did, however, receive quite positive feedback from the few demos we have done so far. We have done our best to bring to market authentic Mexican flavors, using jalapenos, roasted mild green chilies, cilantro, etc. I sincerely hope you enjoy these new products.

BTW, this site appears to be quite expertly constructed.

I have to admit. I've been a tad bit lazy in my kitchen duties lately.
However, tonight I cooked Nana Food Products recipe for: Penne with Chicken and Mushrooms in Sugo Rosa. Very easy to follow directions and results were delicious! My wife, a simple country girl from Sakon Nakhon, sent her: "compliments to Chef".
I've always enjoyed a cream style Italian tomato sauce. I used to get a bottled brand in the States and have missed it, until tonight.
We accompanied it with a fresh green salad and garlic bread.

We've all been discussing lately, ways to make our money go further...for around 250 baht (I used two bottles of sauce), I got four man-sized portions of Penne with Chicken and Mushrooms in Sugo Rosa sauce plus salad and garlic bread . Not a bad deal, IMO.

I have now tried the El Sapo salsas from Nana Foods. As a lover of Mexican food, I can recommend them. A friend of mine came over last night for drinks. I popped open a bottle of the Jalapeno (medium spice) salsa. He lived in New Mexico for many years and he also gave his thumbs-up to the salsa. When I mentioned to him that I would be visiting Tang Ngee Soon Superstore today, he asked me to pick him up a few bottles.

I have now also tried two varieties of Nana Foods pasta sauces and have been happy with them. Also on aisle 27 where Nana Foods products are located, there are some some free recipe booklets in Thai available. So now, even your wife/GF can cook you up some good Italian pasta & sauce .

Once again, the shopping experience at Tang Ngee Soon Superstore, was very good. No long check-out queues and no loud music blaring .

I was there today and I was shocked at the difference in prices on several items I normally buy at Tesco!Examples: ACV was 20 baht a bottle cheaper,Jif Peanut butter was 20 baht cheaper,Skippy was 30 baht cheaper,Olive oil was 40 baht cheaper,jams and jellies were 10 -15 baht cheaper!If I lived in Udon,I would definitely check this place out!
