If you mean the Dems (and their coalition partners), they seem to have, at best, a tenuous relationship with the Yellows - which is the reason the Yellows have now formed their own political party.

I reckon you are drawing some very broad conclusions, based on very little evidence. :-k

I stand corrected if I mis-spoke. I freely admit that I do not follow Thai politics other than very generally due to what I perceive as a severe lack of independent and thorough reporting due to the lèse majesté laws. A lot of my information is filtered through first-hand contact with ordinary citizens who can read the Thai-language newspapers and fully understand nuances and contextual references in the many speeches and interviews aired. Each one of them is proudly biased towards one or the other camp and filtering that information can get clogged every now and then.

An opinion piece by one (not particularly well respected) journalist who is well known for his shrill, conspiracy filled musings.

To be sure, things are going to get hotter between now and Feb 26 when Thanksin finally says goodbye to TBH2 billion of his ill-gotten gains. I suspect it will be nowhere near as bad as Mr Thanong speculates.

This is ridiculous, but it looks like Thaksin is willing to use a War between Cambodia and Thailand to get what he wants ....http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/3 ... at-abhisit

Khun Aardvark, the article does not even mention Thaksin. It is all about Hun Sen stirring up problems with his rhetoric, and visit to the temple area.

What makes you think Thaksin is behind this? The dispute has been an ongoing one for decades.

Moreover, it is very doubtful if Thaksin would get what he wants (unspecified) in a war between Cambodia and Thailand. The Thai military should be easy victors.

Twas his rhetoric about stealing power and challenging Abisit to go to the poles etc. Call it a feeling if you like but I sense Hun Sen is doing the bidding for Thaksin !!

So much for the Red side thinking a month ago that there would be a military coup between the dates 4 feb and Valentines day,now it seems after the verdict on 26th feb it should all kick off, maybe even if Tacky is spared billions, the Red side will still find something.
Better do it quick as they should all go back quickly in March to start preparing the ricefields for this year's harvest. 8)

What a ridiculous thing to say even if it was an attempt at humour .It presupposes that all the red shirt protesters are peasant farming types. Well I can tell you from my observations that a lot of support comes from the professional occupations, including police , army and air force. To say nothing about the government employees and big business concerns .Even some MP's currently serving in parliament are members of the , so called 'Red Shirt" movement .You are just propagating the stereotype image that the other side like to project of them all being uneducated peasants, whilst they are the only ones capable? of running the country .

Apologies, the Yellow propoganda machine has infiltrated my thought process making me believe that under Thaksin's time in office that he only helped the poor people of Thailand especially in the North East, not the middle income earners in steady jobs ie army, police, air force, government workers.
Be good for a mix of reds in Bangkok along as they all take legitimate time off work to go to the anticipated rallies.

It doesn't matter if you think a coup is possible or not, but these sound like fighting words to me.......http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/1 ... t-marching

A little harsh there Trubrit, I think. I agree with you that it would be daft to think that ALL red shirt protesters are farmers. And vice versa, I’m sure there are some ‘yellows’ from poor, rural Issan too. But everything I’ve ever read, heard or seen, much from supposedly independent sources, certainly gave me to understand that the vast majority of red support did come from Issan and those in ‘lesser’ (I use that word carefully) employment. Hasn’t that been borne out in previous elections? Maybe I’ve been hoodwinked too?
And, if we’re actually referring to those in the streets of Bangkok now, equipped with fish sauce missiles  , I’d wager a large percentage are farmers and from Issan! Going rate 500 baht, I’ve heard.

coup?? who needs an active coup when the application of the Internal Security Act (ISA) essentially gives the military under the command of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) pretty much unfettered power to do whatever they see fit.... Just go to the Bangkok Post website and enter ISA into the search window for a variety of stories explaining the full powers of the ISA.. Pretty serious stuff.. and who authorized it?? The PM and the cabinet..

Kinda make you wonder why the ISA wasn't invoked when the PPP was in charge?? Oh wait a minute!! The military refused to assist the PM back then when he asked for help in controlling the PAD folks..

Actually, the PM is doing what is necessary to maintain public stability.. Again, luckily, he and the military get along just fine.. and seriously, Thailand doesn't need another iteration of crap like PAD pulled..

On the previous posting.. Of course folks take money to participate in rallies like the Red Shirts.. Why wouldn't some farming peasant who doesn't have to plant their new crop till May, with nothing to do, not take (this is the accusation anyway) 2,000 Baht to ride down and 2,000 Baht on return from the rally.. That's big bucks for going for a ride and marching around town.. And, it doesn't mean that those folks don't believe that they're getting the shite-end of the stick from the current government.

Check back on when PAD was occupying the Gov't house and then the airport.. Plenty of reports of those "middle-class" Bangkokians taking money too.. Again, it didn't mean that they didn't believe PAD's objections to the PPP, it just made life that much easier for them...

Western standards don't apply over here.. Folks accept monetary compensation for their votes on either side of the divide because the "Nai" culture says that when the "powerful person" that you follow says, "vote for XXX" you do so and the "nai" is obligated to "take care" of his followers and compensate them...
