Firefox hit by malware add-ons

I have used FF for about 5 years now. I fell out with IE & Microsoft when they started getting 'heavy handed' about updates. So I discovered FF and was delighted with what I got. I especially liked the 'add-ons' that allowed me to modify FF to what I wanted & needed, rather than the 'take it all' approach favoured by IE.
I know that you have to be careful with add ons as they consume more memory & slow down loading if you go silly with them. So I have only 4 downloaded which I consider help me with my browsing.
So, all that said, I was a little concerned when I read the above headline.

Ok, i suppose it is nothing new. Care needs to be taken on the net and I guess it is just a reflection that FF is getting as popular as IE and so attracting the attention of the unwanted. Just a 'heads up' to anyone who likes to play with the latest ideas!!

I've been using Chrome for the past couple of weeks because of problems with FF. For some reason there is a delay when opening new tabs and navigating pages and its become very sluggish. I guess I need to reinstall it to fix the bugs. Reading the above gives me more reason not to use it and continue with chrome. Shame really because FF was a good browser.

I'm sure FF will be due a fresh update soon enough to iron out the glitches.

Chrome is an excellent alternative to FF and IE, but Opera should also be worth considering.

I'm back to using FF, for whatever reason I couldn't get used to Chrome's layout. It's simple and fast but certain features are limited. In then end I found out what was causing the slow response time in FF. I disabled all 4 add-on's and the browser worked fine, I guess one of them is not compatible with windows 7 or there is a bug.
As highlighted above you need to be careful with third party add-ons for security and performance.

Out of interest Lee - which add-ons did you have/disable?

I disabled fireshot, bitdefender antiphishing toolbar, Silverlight plugin and a dictionary extension. So far I've re-enabled bitdefender without any problems. I will re-enable the others one by one until I find which one was causing the problem.

Any news on which add-ons you found safe?

I use Adblock Plus, Flagfox, FoxClocks, McAfee Site Advisor, & Xmarks. Performance on my pc's seem fine with these.

I think it was the fireshot plug-in that was causing the problems.

Interesting, I noticed FF beings slow too (slow response when filling forms and also on this forum), and i'm using fireshot also. Let's see if disabling fireshot is the solution for me to.
