Mango Fair 2010

Postby trubrit » February 26, 2010, 8:48 am

Yes its that time again . The annual festival to that delicious fruit will take place next Monday 1st Mar for four days in the ground of Amphoe Nong Wau Sor, which is actually located in the village of Non Wai. There will be many stalls offering entertainment as well as tons and tons of mangoes . It is also an opportunity to buy young fruit trees for your own garden with many nurserymen displaying fruit trees of all varieties . In the evening there will be many shows, including a beauty competition and Morlam dancing .Maybe see some of you there. I am normally to be found in either the beer tent or the Red Cross display . Depending what time of day it is .

An update on the first day. Bit early in the morning but the Morlam song and dance show is still going on, yes 5.00am. Its taking place on the police sports field which is right alongside my house so I can't sleep. Its not the noise keeping me awake , as I am partially deaf. Its the rattling of the doors, windows and the crockery every time the bass drum goes. I don't really mind as its normally just once a year and being retired I can sleep any time .What I do wonder though is why it has to go on all night ? Today is a normal working/school day, yet the audience when I just jogged by was predominantly teenage students .Not much attention in class today I guess .Why it can't finish at a more reasonable time of mid-night or even 1.00am I don't know .Still would have been a great show .
My usual sojourn to the sanctuary of the beer tent has been disrupted this year, thanks to Chang, who have pulled the same stunt as in the UD market. The only beer on sale was theirs, all other vendors were banned . Now I don't care if they make the best beer in Thailand , which they definitely don't ,I am not being dictated to over what I drink . Apparently a lot of Thais thought the same, as the place was empty .Shame really as it definitely destroyed the social aspect of sharing a beer .
There was also a Miss Katoey competition which I will comment on in Open Forum as it will definitely get off this topic .
The rents for the vendors was raised this year, possibly justified by inflation, but 3,000bht for a small space for just 3 nights obviously put a lot off. So there wasn't much else to see but the municipal offerings . All in all, a bit disappointing compared to previous years and makes me fearful for the future . Its early days yet. Still three more days to go so hopefully will get better .
The musics stopped so its back to bed for me .
