Out of Country Land Lord

Postby bumper » March 3, 2010, 7:46 pm

A friend has to renew his annual visa. He leased a home from a person who is not in Thailand has no copy of a house book. How does he handle the address requirement? He rented through an agent who say they don't have a contact address on the owner.

Any ideas?????????????????????????????

I would have thought someone at the Renting Agency could have helped bumper.
Technically (legally) he has an agreement to live in the house because of a contract he has with them (rather than with the absent owner). I know that Immigration are looking for the Thai with the ID & blue book to match the house address he is claiming but maybe they would accept the rental agreement & the owner of the Rental Agency ID & Blue book??

Another thought....
Legally I believe that the address you should use is the address you are living in on the day that you are actually making the application??
He could always book into a friendly hotel (like Ruy Suk) & then get the owner to accompany him as his landlord. I am sure that someone like Jo would be willing to do so with a bit of notice..
I am not, by any means, suggesting that he tries and circumvents the law, just follows it to the letter...
On his first 90 reporting he could then correctly report his rented address..

Likewise, he could also sign a year lease for one of the cheapo THB 3-5k/month Thai-style apartments, use that owner's info as a condition to lease, then bail out of the lease. May loose the deposit and a couple of months' rent, but mission accomplished. ;)
