Ton Koon Hotel

Postby Eegah » February 4, 2010, 9:44 am

Would anyone have any idea how the Ton Koon Hotel compares to others in Udon Thani. We've stayed at the Charoen and the Karin before. The Ton Koon is closer to my girlfriends family.
Thanks in advance

Stayed there about 3 years ago. Stayed only one night.

After shaving and brushing my teeth, water was a half inch deep in the bathroom. Leaky pipe under the lavatory. The A/C was not adequate and room never lost its musty odor. Only Internet connection was a dumpy desktop computer in the lobby.

Don't know how it is now, but I never went back after that one night.

I recommend you consider the Jan Condotel which is not far from Ton Koon and on the Udonmap map. It is on Soi Sansuk between Prajak and Phosi, a quiet soi. A standard room should be 500 baht. Shower only, no tub. Tile floor and small balcony. Plenty of closet space. Laundry service is good though not quick. No restaurant or pool. Plenty of parking. You could walk to Lake Prajak which is about 200 yards away. The Good Everything restaurant is nearby at the enterance to Lake Prajak about a quarter mile away. There are a couple of internet shops across from the hotel with a rate of 30 baht an hour and sell snacks and beverages. You can plug your laptop into an ethernet connection in your room. Exit the hotel take a right and walk down Sansuk to Prajak, take another right and there is the open-air Thai restaurant, Oyster Hotpot, that has great fried rice dishes at 30 to 35 baht, a good noodle soup and other. Exit your hotel, take a left and walk down Sansuk to Phiosi, take a right and there is a seven-eleven. That Thai open-air restaurant is very popular and would be a good place to take the relatives for a meal. It closes one day, Monday I think, and serves until about ten at night. Yes, it is cheap, but it is good. The staff doesn't speak much English, but if the owner is around she certainly does. Her husband, John, is English I believe. Most of the hotel guests are Thai teachers, but you will likely bump into a few English-speaking guests. Not that Thai teachers can't speak English. This hotel is about 10 years old and in decent condition. I usually stay there when in Udon Thani. I find it economical and comfortable.

The thing that I like about the hotel is the massage parlor.I've always had A good massage there.I've always got more than what I asked for.

Is there anything more to tell bout the Ton Koon Hotel? I'll be coming in april this year and I would like to be in a hotel with bar and massage inside, and I don't like to pay more than 1'000 bath a night. Is the Ton Koon really very run down, or shal I try it out? What do you people think?

Completely your choice michaleo, if to try out or not.
I think Forum members have experience of most hotels in Udon, but the only ones posted on this one do not seem very positive. TJ says Jan Condotel is nearby (& so is near to your girl friends) & that does have good things said about it by people who stay there,
If this hotel is up around the 1,000 baht a night then I would suggest that there are FAR better choices for your stay &, personally, I would say look elsewhere.

Perhaps the best wil be if I have a look at it myself. Honestly I don't like to much rambazamba so I will make my mind up when I am there.

I will shoot some pics and inform at this place, as I haven't seen any fotos of the Ton Koon in the internet. :D

I promised to tell my experiences with the Ton Koon Hotel and here they are.

Image

I stayed one night in that hotel, just because I wanted to try it out.

Image

The room was Baht 700 for one night, it was quite big and I didn't see any insects or other co-users
:D But the whole hotel looks as if it would be waiting for an investor that like to renew everything.

Image

The bathroom with tube was used and not really nice to look at.

Image

The shield on the door was wellmeant but it made me laugh.
Perhaps in Thailand Bob Dylan would also have singed "rock rock rocking on heavens door"?

Image

In the rather big complex included is a massageshop, a disco and a concertroom, and a lot of not-used space. Seen from behind it looks a bit old, used an sad.

Thanks for the pics & comments.
The important one.....
Would you stay there again, or recommend to a good friend if they were coming to Udon??

Well, it is obviously that I realised that there are better hotels in udon thani than that one, as I left it after one night. So you were absolutely right, Bob, when you wrote on 7 March:
I would suggest that there are FAR better choices for your stay
. The next night I sprent in the Jan condotel for Baht 500, but it was a bit boring for me, it is better for families, I think. Back to Ton Koon:

I like to do my experiences myself. I wouldn't recommend the hotel to a friend, but for me it was not so bad, I have to say I was a Portier de nuit when I were young, very young, and I like the ambiance of old and used houses with all the stories that they have kept. I had a nice night and slept well.

The hotel was not full at all, and in the evening I could have a look at the concerthall besides the entry. Nobody listened to the singer and the piano, as the customers preferred to watch TV. That is to bad.

Image

And as I wrote before, there was a lot of space that nobody used.
