It ain't diabetes! What is it?!!!

Postby fredwilliams » March 10, 2010, 1:18 pm

I've now been tested for diabetes for about the sixth time in my life and have thankfully been told that I don't have it.

But, I sometimes suffer from sudden hunger attacks which leave me feeling faint and weak. I have to consume a lot of chocolate and milk to overcome each attack.

I've been experimenting with my diet for over 25 years now and just can't pin this thing down.

Does anyone else also suffer from this or similar?

Fred, I too am constantly checked for diabetes since I am the only one in my rather large family who does not have it. I am probably preaching to the saved, but you should get your cardiac functions tested, if you haven't already. I used to get episodes like you describe, got tested for hypoglycemia, diabetes, etc. to no avail. Then I had a sudden heart attack which resulted in a triple bypass operation. Later on, a brain scan revealed that I had experienced several "mini strokes", which could possibly have come from the bypass surgery. But when I described those episodes, the neurologist agreed that I could have been having slight strokes of a transient nature. Don't mean to sound alarming, but you should see a cardiologist and mention those symptoms. By the way, everything is fine now thanks to excellent medical care. These things can be controlled if identified early enough. Good luck.

hiya, well I am off on a different trangent as I dont know your age or whatever..but good comment from jimbo..leave no stone unturned ok...I am just a bloke with a theory..........what do you mean by experimenting with your diet..do you mean to say you have had this condition for 25yrs..is it a gut problem you think..I would say that chocolate and milk are the worse things to take, as they cause untold allergies problems..if you have been taking both of these for years to try and stop the condition, your body may in fact go hungry and weak because it wants the choc and milk fix you been feeding it, and not the other way around..food allergies can come from things you think are safe, or from things you have been taking for many years, and think you would never be allergic too..it sounds like an associated gut problem to me, or a food allergry, or a intestinal worm..have a food allergy test, and take a worm tab, and go back to just meat and vege and water ( no ice ), no coffee or tea, sauces, oils, just straight meat and steamed vegetables, you may even need a gluten free people...my guess it is something your eating, and your body is acting like a smoker needing a fag..if you have been doing the chocolate and milk thing for years, then I would look there first with your food allergey test...I am not a doctor but I have in the past had my fare share of stomach problems..my nephew has to have a gluten free diet because of years because of a bad perferated gut...his doc recently told him to start smoking which has worked wonders, and same with me...strange as it may sound..

I would also look into what you use at work or at home on a day to day basis for allergies..paint, glue, air con, electric heaters, gas cookers and that sort of thing...I think you has got to go back to basics in your diet, nothing out of a tin or box, no preverses like jams, no cheeses, yohurts, biscuits, no beer....wine yup, honey yup..keep a record of what you eat everyday, boring I no, but when the attack happens the next time, you can refer to it to see what you had the previous day..usually and allergy will have a reaction with a couple of hours...thats all I can say..good luck tracking in down..
