OK, let me try: Ex pats do drink, womanise, and spend money, I know that for a fact - not just me be but many others to, but they keep it under control, they generally don't start abusing the locals, start fighting, puking up in public and complaining in English to a shopkeeper about something or other, they also do not go around "wai ing" everyone, whereas tourists do all of that plus a lot of other things that make you cringe. Not all tourists may I add.

I imagine that their are bad behavioralist amongst both groups, but i would guess the % of tourist bad behaviors as a whole might be smaller than the % of expat bad behavior. Some of the ignorant or naive behaviors of tourists might help to identify them as such, but not all those behaviors should be classified as ''bad''!

Some tourists may be ignorant and naive when in Thailand, some are stupid when it comes to money and women.

Expats do conduct themselfs better on the whole, but if you want to see the worse in mankind.

You have all herd stories of what an expat has done to stay in Thailand? Far worse than anything a tourist may do.

A coin has 2 sides it does not matter where it comes from, it still has some value. A lot like people i think.

I would say it is a pretty mixed bag. As papaguido says, Expats live in Thailand and are generally more controlled. possibly due combination of familiarity of environment, budget and better understanding of social do's/dont's.

Have met loads of good mannered, well behaved tourists on my visits to Thailand (as I try to be), inc Udon... and have met plenty of expats who are anything but.

Almost all expats I have meet, are to be polite, midaged men.
Tourist are much more mixed.
Tourist are guest, and will be more polite.
Behavior is leand in our early years,so a good tourist can be a bad expat, and a bad tourist will be a terrible expat

tourist tend to be more happy because they can do all they want in a short period of time . I personally find quite a few expats bitter towards each other always talking about the one who is not there . (not all)

Some intersting posts in this touchy topic. I could'nt help but notice old timers comments regarding expats good overall approach towards the local community, ie no abuse etc etc.
Take a look at one of his previous posts in the DAY & NIGHT thread dated march 8 time 10.23

PS Is there a demetia clinic in udon.

Glad to see you are paying attention Bilko. You will also find that at no point during this thread have I labeled myself as a well behaved expat.
So what is your point?

Expats guilty at times myself, usually when I'm bored with my life then I can choose to evaluate someone else's like I really know. Kind of stupid HUH [-X

It's an easy trap to fall into when all of sudden you have so much time to observe things that never had before. Sure makes you a miserable beast in the end.

Trying to brake the habit myself got enough problems living my own ;)

Tourist I was one at some point in time so I really don't care. They get to silly the pay the price not I. :-"

Yeah 2000 baht at G spot,Nutty Park for a short time :?

Presumably the longterm tourists on continual free Tourist visas are very happy at the moment.

Should keep a regular stream of them here in Udon over the next year, albeit exchange rates are poor.Behaviour of tourists of course, short time here,go mental, expats just take longer

Sorry for the delay old timer, but had to do a spot of shopping. you are right, you did'nt mention yourself as well behaved, so you should have no problem understanding the antics of those folk that appear to make you cringe.
We all pee in the same pot at some point, and who knows, you and i may have shared a pot or two already.
Now that will make you cringe. "no appoligies"

Yours truly

Safe to say the honorable OP displays no better manners and civilized activity than the tourists he disparages.

There's a word for that...

Some people are desperate to degrade others in a vain attempt to make them look better. It never works.
