Lasik eye surgery

Postby Udon farang » June 25, 2006, 10:00 pm

I am contemplating lasik eye surgery in the very near future. The two places I am considering for this are Brumengrad Hospital and a clinic called TRSC in BKK. The clinic boasts of having the "latest" technology vs. Brumengrad, but is about 20,000 baht more expensive too.

Has anyone had lasik surgery at either of these places, or maybe an opinion on this?

Sorry i can't comment on the eye surgery apart from finding the most experianced surgeon with 1st class credentials to carry out the procedure, but can comment on Bumrungrad Hospital Bangkok in general.(if it helps)
several years ago they performed an emergancy op on my TW, the service was of high standard the hospital was spotlessly clean, and every thing seemed professional at a reasonable cost...Job Done.

Would use again if we needed it..(hopefully not though).

Hope you find what you are looking for on this Forum.

well udon farang if you are interested i just found this,(bangkok post) and this must be the best recomendation you are going to get.......

The Queen has eye surgery... Her Majesty the Queen underwent eyesurgery at Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok yesterday and was advised to suspend activities for six days.

The Bureau of the Royal Household said doctors found a retinal detachment in her right eye during an examination this month.

Although it does not affect Her Majesty's vision, they proposed immediate surgery to prevent the damage from spreading.

Doctors also decided to remove a cataract from her eye with ultrasound treatment.

I had seen that article and you are right...... a good testimonial to that clinic. However, I made my decision to go with TRSC after doing some research on the internet. TRSC has the latest technology, even more up to date than where the Queen is going, and has a much more informative website, which tells me they may have a better operation. I guess I will find out on Thursday morning.

Thanks for the info.

Lazic surgery

Postby Mobaan » June 27, 2006, 6:49 pm

Let me jump on the bandwaggon. I am in line for the same procedure ,once y'all got yours done and tell its ok . Maybe we could ask for a group discount.
Went to get checked at Bumrungrad 2 years ago - but I chickened out -I am so dead scared about my eyes ,it almost phathetic( otherwise I think I can take a licking and keep on ticking -but with the eyes.....).
So ,please this is the place to give service to the public and let us know your experiences.

I leave on the 14:20 flight to BKK tomorrow and have the exam on Thursday morning. If they say I am a candidate for the sugery, it will be done at 18:00 the same day. I will stay at least one more night, maybe 2, in BKK and return to Udon. Hopefully I'll be up to attending the big "4th of July" party on the 2nd in Nong Prajak.

I'll be sure to post my results and experience with the clinic when I return to Udon.

Might I ask what the cost is for this operation.
I believe in the UK its about 500 - 1000 pounds per eye ???
Would be most interested to know the cost here.
Thanks

I'll give you the complete details when I am finished.....cost, type of technology used, quality of care...etc. I think it will be a "little" cheaper than the USA, but not that much. But will tell you more in a few days when I return and get back on the computer.

Eyes

Postby Mobaan » June 28, 2006, 5:30 pm

Back to basics;
Why do you feel you want lasic surgery ? What are the problems with your eyes ;
-far/near sightesness,
tired of wearing glasses,
required correction can not be achieved anymore with glasse,
what about contacts?,
cataracts .
Different folks-different strokes

Lasik Eye surgery

Postby FrazeeDK » June 28, 2006, 7:02 pm

I've had numerous friends and acquaintances get Lasik in Bangkok at several different places. None of them had any negative aftereffects. As I recall, and the last friend had the surgery about 4 years ago, it ran about 50,000 Baht. I'm sure technology's improved since then and possibly the price is lower.. The Bumrungrad Hospital website at: http://www.bumrungrad.com/ is a bit multi-layered but does list current prices for a variety of surgeries to include Lasik.

Back in Udon Thani.........."without the Lasik sugery". Sorry to report that I am not a candidate for the surgery, as is the case with most people who having declining eye sight as a result of aging.

However, I can highly recommend the TRSC clinic. They were very proficient and professional in all aspects. I had to watch an hour long video about Lasik surgery before we even proceeded with testing. And they provide you with all the benefits AND risks involved.

You can find TRSC on Google if you are interested in more information.
