For all those interested in meeting other posters,local expats and other visitors,there is a regular scheduled get together at The Bookshop on the first Saturday of every month.It replaces the old NM get togethers!

All profits support someone and something,the fact that most of the regulars are posters on UT and they initiated ,organized and suggested the meeting at this excellent popular venue,should not takeaway the fact that it is an opportunity for new peopleto meet!

As someone who gave up going to the NM meets over two years ago for my own reasons which I won't go in to here, but are still highly relevant. if not more so today , I was merely pointing out that you originally said that you, and I admit , I, didn;t like the original concept of the social gathering being associated with the financial affairs of the forum . Now you appear to have radically reversed your stance and in fact seem to be justifying it .

a non profit forum where many members such as myself are regulars for the sunday roast, and monthly get together, along with a great munch couple times a month.

both forums serve their purpose, UT, good friends and lots of chit chat, very friendly. UM, an important tourist information portal. one of the best. people are people, either we enjoy each others company or not, just the BHC is a very relaxed evening, without all the negatives of the night market. IMHO.

LA. You seem to have missed my point. I am in no way critical of the Book house or any other chosen venue. I am not even being critical of the meeting. I am simply pointing out that the reason the night market was so popular was because it wasn't associated with any commercial enterprise of the forum . If I remember, you were extremely vocal on this point, as was Stan . Now it appears all has changed.

Needs a slight correction, tb. The initial meetings which were started by Paul (is he still around?) were to be held at different sponsors each month to help support them (i.e., commercial enterprise). Regulars felt quite comfortable meeting at the NM with the beer gals and cheap food and didn't like moving around so the NM was it for awhile.

Book House? An excellent choice for a meeting place, IMO. Very comfortable, nice hosts and a great place to pick up a ............. (wait for it).........................book to read.

Yep, he's still around, he's just busy working elsewhere in the country now.

TB, it was initially associated with this Forum as you well know. The thread lasted nearly 5 years, and most people met each other because of it. The meetings continue due to the efforts of people on both Forums (not you obviously) and give newbie's an opportunity to put a name to a face and interact with like minded people. It serves no purpose for you to try and talk it down. Yes it has changed, like the World we live in changes every day and has now Morphed into something other than what you knew. If you were to spend 5 minutes with your head out of your Arse you would realise that it does the same thing for the community now that it did in the past. Just because you Ferment your anti social behaviour as each year passes does not mean that Udon and it's expats should go down the same sorry anti social, bigoted Hi-So one way street that you have chosen. New Members should be given every opportunity to meet and greet and have the chance to Socialise with people who have a common theme without your negative views. If you really care, either join in and have a positive input or start your own 'Elite' little club and be done with it. Oh and by the way, Yes I have had a drink

Well Aardvark perhaps when your head clears you might like to read my posting again .Where am I talking it down ? it obviously fulfills a need to socialise with others of a similar standing to a lot of members . Just not any more, to me .

What a hoot! I can't believe any group of westerners could drown out the Thai's at any venue,,,,,,

I'm just dissappointed The Boss and I are currently unable to attend at any location and partake in the good times.

i for one am a new member and i could not care less where it is held as long as we all have a good time and a laugh.i hope to be at the book house on the 3rd of july for a couple of beers and a chat.

OT enjoys attending these sort of meetings and likes to get absolutely b0ll0xed when doing so. However, if I am going to spend money buying a considerable amount of lager I do not want a single baht of it going towards UT since they have banned me for life and they are a bunch of in-house quarreling knobheads. So I will go, but tell Jeremy to keep all the profit from my bins because neither myself or Udon Map needs it. Might take a well fit bird along as well if the Mrs don't find out.
