Being a non-regular visitor of the Book House I cannot judge about the volume-level of the music there.

What I do know is that Thai people like (?) loud music. I do not. Especially when I want to talk with some friends, loud music can be very irritating indeed. I don't want to be a whiner, so I just seek a bar which is more quiet.

Do bar-owners know what their customers like concerning to music? Do the ever ask them?

Personally I can imagine very well that people would like to have some music when they enjoying themselves in a bar. If I was a bar-owner, I would make a careful selection of the music I would play. In a lot of bars they play music which is not background music at all. It is the penetrating, pushy character of a lot of voices of the artists which makes it irritating, not only the volume.

I was in all day feeling a bit under the weather and witnessed the children. At no time where they out of hand. After almost 3 weeks of staying at the Bookhouse I am still happy with everything. I think Jeremy handled the situation very diplomatically. I would have tossed him out on his ass.

Superb rebuttal.

agree with that, and as far as the music goes, unless paying attention or hear a favorite of yours, the volume is so low, i forget he even has it on, until mentioned here. one of the few places i visit, simply for that reason. family restaurant, kids are kids, as long as not bumping into you or testing your mash potatoes, let them enjoy themselves, geez, parents are boring, let the play. will agree locals are more lenient with them but there is always the quiet indoor seating, where i hang out usually, simply for the ac. this is a family restaurant, book store, in or outside setting. we're not talking intimate, romantic ambiance, though if not busy and find a nice corner, could be pleasant setting for more than quiet evening meal.

used to go to irish clock, good background music, good volume, nobi's, good volume level, and where i sit, right in front of the speaker, and no problems, get there a few times a month.............BH/C seems to have developed into my favorite recently, there at least once every week, and no complaints at all, especially on the issues brought up by Henri.

as mentioned, i'll take kids over drunks any day. why i'm not a bar person.

always a pleasant dining experience, and Jeromy and Nok are great company and host. =D> =D> =D>

God help me when I'm so old that I can't appreciate and enjoy the excitement and joy of young people experiencing life for the first time. I have fond memories of being a pain in the proverbial Arse  By those kiddies an Ice Cream on me =D>

Jeremy, apologies for the rogue post slipping through, I wasn't on-line at the time so was unable to remove it. Usually all new members are placed in a group that require their first 4 posts to be approved before they go live, this helps us avoid spam and posts such as the above. Unfortunately the member above joined before this was put in place and remained in the standard (full permissions) group.

It's certainly highlighted a bug and quite possibly a security flaw so I will fix that today! :D

I Have nothing to your music , your place is big enoungh to find place to sit quiet. Your food is good and prices the same. You and your lady are friendly people. But you must aware your have a restaurant and that is not a playgarden for children. I like children very much, but if I want to eat and talk with somebody, i like my privacy.
What my former girlfriend, she got sick at your place, everybody can be sick sometimes. At later vistit I apologize for it and you accept it. It is a bit out of beheavour to refer on it on my first post.
For me close now, hope to come back to you, and have good meals as before. It is up to you .??

Henrie ,
we could debate this for an age , because we obviously have differing opinions .

i would have preferred you to have spoken to me directly and kept the matter between ourselves , rather than post on a public forum . but you chose the public forum option and forced my hand to reply publicly .

your main point is that you said the parents of the children allowed their kids to run around and make a noise whilst you were trying to eat . you said this is not acceptable in your opinion.

but in your opinion it is ok for someone to be drunk on alcohol ( not consumed in my restaurant ) and vomit in front of other customers . i,m sorry but i feel this is double standards on your part . the reason i choose to post about that particular drunken episode ( rather than one of the 8 or so customers that may have witnessed it ) is to press home a point to the people who YOU choose to involve in your dining experience at the Bookhouse , that even you in your moral high ground are not without flaws .

you had the opportunity to sit inside in a really quiet air- con restaurant and yet you chose to sit around families and complain about their kids .. which i cant really understand why you would do this to be honest with you.

the fact of it is Henrie , you are not making a complaint about me , my family or my business .. you are in fact complaining about customers with children who also like to use the Bookhouse .

what you are asking of me , without saying it directly , is will i be prepared to tell parents with children who come to the Bookhouse, that they need to tell them to be quiet if you are eating - the answer is no .

if you wish to tell the parents themselves , to tell their kids to be quiet while you eat , that is your choice , although i,m not too sure how well that would be received .

we do offer a takeaway service ;)
