Thanks Arjay all my holdings are in Thailand. But, whats good for Asia is good for Thailand. A good local source is Kelive, they tend to trade in big caps nut, once in a while they will throw a bone to the little guy :D

Funny big cap here are between ten and a fifteen dollars. Thaistocks trades in value investing finding them before they are the big guys. At this juncture I have done well in the small and mid size caps, perfect fro a guy on a small budget. It's amazing how many good solid companies are in that mix. Example Global is one. I know they are doing good took enough of my money over the years

I appreciate it

I thought this article might be of interest to Thai based investors, as it could help boost the market prices of the bigger Thai companies.

SET chief mulls opening up central trading system to foreign investors
Thursday, June 17, 2010.

Opening the trade system to foreign investors would be a way of boosting liquidity, particularly for the top 30 per cent of listed companies, which could be promoted to be on a par with their regional peers.

Supported by liquidity, these companies should enjoy higher trading volume and hence higher prices. With high prices, they could be included in the Morgan Stanley Capital Index, and then they would then fully show their business potential, which they still have despite negative factors at home and abroad. Thai companies’ resilience to the political crisis will also be Charamporn’s message to international investors.

That would be interesting if they can pull it off. The Big Caps here are like penny stocks in the states, PTT for example sells for about then bucks. So far I have done well with mid caps and small caps. Big guys go up my guess is the the little guys will follow.

I've thought about that 5o% profit thus far, I think a lot of it had to do with buying when there was blood in the streets in Bangkok. Foreigners were selling out I was buying in.

Thanks for the info good to know.

Odd to see the SET in red at 853 went back to 854 again. Per Kelive foreigner's have been NET buyers for the past two days.

Dollar Cost averaging, from Paul

As to dollar cost averaging, there is also dollar cost averaging- out, this is when stocks run up and nobody knows where a top is, then you just slowly sell out. Its the opposite of buying in.

That sounds like a little thing but it' not wish I had did it with STPI and retained some of those stocks in the 40's now.

I nipped away at Global today and cut my loss by 50%, by bidding low.

Now here is the surprise to me Global in SET for just six months, Been here in Udon doing business for eight years that I know of. The stock pretty much doubled so the information I'm getting it is just adjusting at the moment.

Hey I got more time them money that is for sure.

WEEKLY UPDATE:

Boy what week this was SET closed at 855 my portfolio is at 264,635 and I loss 20K, I suppose I could quit now my goal was 250K, Something wrong with that picture huh!

I posted about some warrants being issued, well the bugger went all the to 5.90 a share, The warrants could be converted at 2.70 warrants issuing at one to four ratio. Now me I wanted a big piece of that. So I borrowed a 100k from me. Took me to 28,000 shares, Hence I will get 7,000 warrants for conversion. I have 18 months to exercise these warrants, with the first opportunity in December as I understand it. This is really the only one keyed on as Paul says it’s in the money. So that was what I was shooting for.
I will also get an additional warrant 0ne to six ratio on the one I have 30 months one warrant will go at 5 baht, This it all depends on what the shares sell for in this period, if they are over five a good deal.
This stock was trading at 5.90 for a short period of them. When the warrants issue it drives the price down. Paul was estimating they would hit 4.70 and we would make a few baht. They close today at 4.84.
My average share price was 5.25, so even though I bought the additional shares I lost 20K for now. Thank goodness I was already told that would happen, or it would be 191 time and the WAMBULANCE.

The warrants can be sold off individually they are actually free, my goal is convert them and hold 35K shares, it pays great dividends and hopefully the shares will increase in value over the next three years.
So, on my book I show a minus 4,617.
I reality I have put 220K and actually still have a profit 44,635 baht. It’s all been reinvested so it back working.

I haven’t decided yet next month I might try some dollar averaging with it. I did that with another last week and it’s in the green again.

Well there was some consolation last week for hanging onto my laggards. The worst,SCP, was up 25% and maybe the best, TWP, was up about 20% at the end of the Friday. AJ was up a good bit though it hardly compensates for the decision on my part a couple years ago to keep these low-valued stocks and forego converting my BANPU warrents at 40 baht a share. BANPU is now arouund 660 baht. I also had STPI at a bit above 2 baht. Fortuneately I dumped my STPI before it droped half its value. Still, if I had kept my STPI shares and sold AJ, SCP, and TWP, maybe I would have them at over 40 baht per share today.

And then there were those 40,000 shares in that sports shoe company that disappeared when it declared bankruptcy.

I kept STPI further then you but , not enough :D

Well I pulled my 100K back out it's safe and sound and I have the warrants, that would hurt me the 15K won't.

Set is at 861 this morning and I'm back in the green.

The financial data on GLOBAL does look positive. Though its lack of history is a negative IMO. The lack of transparency of the stocks in the late 90's still haunts me. So many of them had hidden major deals that had catastrophic endings. The booming building developement deals did many of them in when things went bust.

BTW I have some GLOBAL

If I hadn't shopped there for eight years and seeing lots and lots of customers most of the time I would have passed. I wa truly amazed that they hadn't listed before.

SET finished off today at 875, anyone else waiting for the other shoe to drop?

It is being said it is top heavy and it will turn down, so far it hasn't, But it has to eventually. So to be ready for that I made sure I have diversification.

At this juncture I think as far as buying new stocks I'm done for at least six months. The one I have have been researched by Thaistocks I know they are strong companies. So if I see drops now I will buy more shares of that stock.

Ok where I stand now Portfolio value 309,182

Money invested 250,000

Profit 59,182

Be nice if that turned into 50 %

I don't really expect that, when it happened last time it was nice and has let me build a good account for myself. But remember I'm the guy trying to beat the bank rates so far so good.

I'm grateful to the members on Thaistocks and all the other guys from different forums
