The British banks were given a bit of stick by Mervyn King (Governor of The Bank of England) yesterday for refusing to loan money to perfectly sound small businesses. He also said that the banks are showing no loyalty to long term customers who have shown loyalty in them. He complained that face to face contact between a senior branch officer and the customer had been replaced by elecronic mail shots!!
There was also an insinuation that senior bank officials were more interested in their personal bonuses than the needs of their customers & their shareholders interests.
It seems that despite being rescued by public money the senior bank officials have learnt little from that exercise.
All in all a quite damming statement by a man who knows a thing or two about ethical banking and how to stimulate an country's economy.
In light of that your post about Barclay's & CC does not surprise me one bit. Whether the postal systems are any more prone to theft than the British system I am not sure (I would guess it is about the same

) but with only a little thought & effort on Barclay's part they can make the issue of cards as near 100% secure as anything is. If they don't know how to do it then I am happy to tell them (for a small personal bonus

), but I suspect that they are well aware already, but just cannot be bothered!!
