Renewing a UK passport without a credit card.

Go to the Bangkok Bank by the Clock Tower.

Take a local with you, and go upstairs to the international desk.

Flatly refuse a Western Union transfer form and demand an international bankers draft in HK dollars made payable to the consulate in HK.

Then hot foot it over to the post office near Nong Prajak and have it expressed. You can't EMS it because the address contains a PO Box #.

I sent mine on Monday, so I'm sitting here biting my nails at the moment! 8-[

Well, over a week has now gone by now with no phone or email contact from the consulate, so I'm assuming that everything's okay.

I still HATE this limbo period, though!

I think you will be OK Fred.I renewed mine by post last year (admittedly to Bangkok) and the new passport was back within a fortnight.
I dont know if you have to allow longer for Hong Kong but I would think if you posted around the 3rd you should definitely hear something by the 24th.....so early days yet.
I was a bit concerned,as well, but everything was fine.....in the meantime just keep enjoying your Guinness in the Irish Clock ! 8)

When I renewed mine it took about 20 days, so Zidane is right n the money.

I, too, think that I'm going to be okay.

No calls. No emails.

And the Kodak photo shop on on the Posri almost next to the motorbike dealership on the corner of Prachasanti, know all about the new poxy 'biometric' picture requirements.

Thanks, gents!

I sent my application 3 Mondays ago.

I haven't received any calls or emails from HK, but I couldn't send it by EMS because the address I got from the website had a PO Box number in it.

Should I be starting to get worried? 8-[

There's not a PO Box in the address for the HK Embassy it's:

The Passport Section
British Consulate-General
1 Supreme Court Road
Hong Kong

There's a number you can call in the UK for the company who controls all the applications, they are called Careline Services Ltd on +44 208 082 4744. There's no email address and the embassy in HK and BKK will direct you to this number.

Thanks for your help, Chris.

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL UK PASSPORT HOLDERS.

The information regarding fees is incorrect on at least one of the consulate sites. It falls short by a little over 250 baht and you WILL get a call from HK telling you that you must send them the outstanding amount. That in itself costs almost 1,000 baht: the cost of a bank transfer from Bangkok Bank and then EMS.

One of the consulate sites also feature a PO Box address. DO NOT send your application there because you can't EMS to a PO Box number and it takes over 3 weeks to arrive.

I got my son to call the UK 'help'line and they managed to duck out of the equation by confusing him by saying that it sounded like a visa issue.

I've been told that UK passports are the most expensive to replace in the world and if we were allowed to swear on here, I most certainly would be doing so now!!
