The Submerged Island is a great place for the fish to hide, feed and breed its also a natural habitat for them so although we could build it up I would prefer to leave as is, People just need to know where it is and float fish over this area We have in the past put a map showing the location of the Island so maybe need to do this again. Seriuos Anglers will know that fish swim on an average many Kilometers a day so anywherein the park you will catch fish even 3-5 feet out from the bank. The new fish that went into 3 of the ponds weighted more than 2500 kg and cost in the region of 170,000 baht which is serious money in anyones eyes. The Tuk Tuk service we havent yet started but will after our holiday break in September. I dont want to turn Sabai Sabai into the same as other fishing Parks around Udon which dont have the infrastructure or Fish that we have. We have had some problems with the staff especially when we are not there but thats been sorted out now and we now have 3 of our old staff returned and have weeded out the rest. We are always around for PM's about anything.

Finally, I would prefer customers that are not going to be taking fish home to use barbless hooks as it protects the fish from injury, Any Angler worth their salt wont lose a fish using barbless hooks and they are also easier to take out. I know this is impossible to tell our Thai customers but for people on this forum should make common sense. Its also more fun using barbless hooks as you have to up your skill levels too!!!

Tightlines Paul.

I have fished here many times and think Paul and P on the whole are doing a good job providing very good facilities and fishing =D> . At 100 baht a day its less than a pint back home and Paul I always use Barbless hooks when fishing and only lose the occasional fish, keep up the good work =D> I have employed thai's before and know how hard that is :-"

Tafia,

You dont need to be an expert to fish here, we have so much fish that after setting up the rod (if hired Staff will do) the cast the fish will come to you. If im home at the time you come I can give tuition free, Buy im sure if you go and try you will find it easy enough and with a beer or 2 quite relaxing. We have 23 kinds of fish some do require expert knowledge to catch but Jeramid (Pacu) of which we have to many will eat almost anything and give a great fight when hooked. We also have good food available which will keep the Thai wife or girlfriend completely occupied until its time for her to sleep.

Regards Paul

Hi Tafia,
Give me a call or pm me and we can meet up at the park. You've been threatening to get strated for a while now.
I might pop down to your place tonight if the rain stays off, I also want to get some barbless hooks at the n/market.

Sabai Sabai or Sanuk Sanuk. :D

Went out there early last Friday to avoid the weekend crowd and the crossing lines snafus that might occur. Only one other hut was occupied and we were catching jeremida with every bait we threw out there although I forgot to bring along some pineapple chunks. Dug up some of our own worms at home and bought some of their cut-up shrimp and chicken livers. Ended up with 10 kilos of the toothy creatures and, when last seen, our nephew was speeding homeward bound with the catch and happily telling everyone how he was going to chop up the fish and make a larb dish. Feed a village. :-k

Wanted to catch a few panine but those we hooked were small so they will live to see another day. Thai guy at the other hut caught a nice one and wanted to sell it to us but we politely declined his kind offer. Stopped at the Nongsamrong market on the way home and bought a fresh one that weighed about a kilo. Tried to get the lady to toss it at me so I could say I caught it but she told me to stop fooling around.

BBQ fish for dinner that night was sooo good.

Yep. Good time, good time.

Out of curiosity, what size (breaking strain) lines are generally used for fishing at SS?

OT chucks in a tow rope with a number 10 hook (only one hook) attached. Never breaks.

Line strength between 5 kg and 10 kg will work just fine for the fishing at Sabai Sabai. It depends on you rod and reel as to how heavy of a line you can cast. Lighter tackle and line makes for a bit more challenging (and fun) sport but the down side is that there are some obstacles in the water such as bungalow piers and some weeds and if the hooked fish wraps around something the lighter line could easily be broken.

No need to go heavier than (maximum) 12 kg to 15kg for 95% of the fish that you will hook there. If I were to pick an average line to use I'd say 8 kg would be pretty good.

Thanks Shado. I bought my reel (Mitchell Orca 80S Pro) with me from Oz. It is a beach/surf reel, and loaded with (from memory) 20lb line. Sounds like it might not be too much out of place at SS - hopefully I can hire a rod to suit it. If I enjoy the experience, I will look at buying my own rod here.
