So,my question is,how do you get stopped for speeding? They use a siren, red lights or signal in some way for you to pull over?I have never seen that in Thailand!
.

usually they are at the side of the road they wave at you to stop/pull over, never seen a speed camera though,as you are most probably in the outside lane they hazard a guess that you are speeding, or may say that their colleague saw you speeding further up the road,if you want to argue with them a few hours down at the station may help you decide wether to pay or not.
i am surprised you have never seen this in Thailand.

 BM,those are the ''money stops'' :!: I havn't stopped at any of those for 3-4 years  My wife has finally stopped displaying her fears when I avoid the cop and continue on :!: She still looks back to check, and then smiles 8)

My formula:2 police,1 truck, waving you over(especially selected waving over) with a flashlight or clipboard= slight manuever around and slow accelleration thereafter :!: A quick look in the rearveiw mirror shows no pursuit interests, they focus on the next car :!: It has always been my intention to immediately pull over ,stop, and play dumb if I see the slightest hint of pursuit!Never had to stop :!: I never NOT stop in town traffic with city police.Because I have never had them try for money. They simply check reg.,ins. and sometimes D/L :)

 As long as your happy  I personally got fed up with the selective stopping :x ,if you know what I mean.

:) It's not that I am not breaking ''a law'',its the fact that in Thailand the laws are not made or enforced for the good of the public. They are selectively applied for what ever purpose suits the officials and this is my ''personal'' way of dealing with it

I wonder if there is a maximum limit to the amount of buffalos you can carry in your pickup?

Image

I'm not sure if the road laws state a maximum number of people you can pick up in a local taxi (sangtaew), but this one looks a little full IMO!

  I'm sure there is a law, just needs a falang in the wrong area of Thailand,to have it enforced

 Aussie friend of mine stopped by the other day.He was stopped on his motorbike for going the wrong direction on the side of the road.He had just left a shop and was going about 50 meters to turn about. I was shocked because it was in NK(police don't seem to bother falangs)and I had never seen anyone stopped for this,it is quite common behavior!

Hi Stan, you seem rather proud, perhaps even a touch boastful of never stopping for traffic patrols on the road. I hope you never have to regret doing that. I would like to tell you what a senior policeman told me about that sort of behaviour, he actually described it as suicidal in some circumstances, such as follows. Some patrols are out there with the sole purpose of catching druggies, sometimes as a result of a tip off. If they have been advised that a vehicle of a certain make and colour may be containing drugs they will wave it down, if it fails to stop they are authorised to use any means to apprehend it, that includes shooting at it as it flees. Now if your driving one that just happens to be of similar description and you don't stop, how would you feel to see one of your loved ones bleeding to death alongside you? There is no blame to attach to the police, you were signalled to stop and didn't. don't think it can't happen, it has, several times, the last being in Bangkok, when a lady driver didn't stop, and the police shot after the departing car, killing both her and her 10 year old son.I sincerely hope you will never have to regret your decision not to stop.

I personally would advise stopping every time the traffic police wave you over, it's always good to keep the right side of the law.

As in my case I stopped both times, I was polite, smiled and they let me go without a fine. They could have charged be 400 baht if they wanted to, but let me off, probably because I was on my best behavior.

I personally have more peace of mind obeying to the law, and if they decided to fine me, it's only 400 baht at the end of the day, so not to worry. :)

:) I understand and appreciate your point!
I do feel a bit proud, whether anyone feels I 'm foolish or not!I consider that I still have my wits about me,and I believe I am very aware of my environment!I will make judgement calls that affect my life now as I have my entire life!
I have and will continue live my life in the manner that suits my personality.I believe that I am fully aware of the possible ramifications of my actions.I am paying attention to the whole situation on each occurrence. The slightest negative reaction would bring a prompt halt to my car!
I have never had a ''sheep'' mentality and very much resent situations where people are trying to ''scam'' me,especially those using their ''power positions'' totally out of line.

I have been driving a longtime in Thailand, especially in areas surrounding Bangkok. For many years ,I put up with the petty money stops! It gradually went from''haha only $2'' to ''this is the 3rd,4th,even 5th time today''BS.I have been pulled over on the expressway where they just walk up tp the window, demand 100 baht and rush you away so they can stop the next car.I have been obviously singled out at tollways and hijacked for 1500B etc. etc.

To each his own!If it gives you more pleasure and comfort to play their game for your private reasons.I support you!I personally have never allowed someone to ''walk over me'' if I determine that it can be avoided! That will never change!Sometimes it can't be avoided and it is prudent to comply :x

I am proud,I feel estatic each time it happens :D It doesn't have much to do with money. It has alot to do with my personal feelings!

Some people choose to smoke ,some people choose to drink to much, both are more dangerous and have the greater potential for harm than my not stopping to pay lying cops!

If someone feels the risk of being shot is a real possibility,by all means stop :!: I would!I think the chances of being hit by a motorist when we are on our bicycles is greater!Doesn't stop us from continuing to ride! Chok Dee

I have only heard of a couple of shootings involving falangs. It seems to me that their was some personal verbal confrontation proceeding the shootings.
Regular controlled stops are a completely different ''ballgame'',the same as city stops!

the over-loading of trucks with livestock, the amount of pigs that they can cram into metal cages and stack on the back of trucks is incredable, but would'nt like to be the piggies on the bottom as all your fellow swines will be pis*ing and shi*ting on your head.
and getting stuck behind the big trucks full of livestock on a windy day, always keep your distance of the pi*s and s*it that come flying over your car.Image
