Bangsean_girl,
Are you applying for a "Tourist" visa? or a "Student" visa?
If you are applying for a tourist visa, you will need a "sponsor" in the country you are planning to visit, and yes, you will need money
It is not easy to get a visa to visit Uk, but if you have all necessary requirements, can be as quick as a week or two.
Check out this site for more info, if going to Uk.

You probably will have to show that you have a compelling reason to return to Thailand!

Hello there,

You must understand that if you apply for a tourist visa or student visa, you will not be able to work leagally in the uk.

However, if this is ok then you need to show your bank account statements for the last 6 months, and it is better for you to show any assets that you have such as land in thailand as a reason to return. my girlfriend got a tourist visa 2 months ago and is in england now, it only took 1 week. look on the uk embassy in bangkok website, there are clear guidelines.

Hope this helps.

Bangsean_girl,

You have not mentioned what country you want to receive a visa for. The requirements and wait times vary immensely by country.

It would be best to vist the website of the embassy or consulate in Thailand that represents the country you want to visit.

Depending upon the country, you might be able to make it in a week. My wife went to the Taiwan consulate in Bangkok, with airplane tickets in hand (and some other doucments) and was given a visitor's visa the same day. It can happen.

Rick , are you sure you meant Taiwan? My TW reguarly accompanies me to Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong. Without a visa in advance , only the one stamped on entry.I am also shortly taking her to mainland China and My advance enquiries indicate she won't need one for there either.

It was Taiwan. We went to Taipei for a few days. That was about two years ago so maybe Taiwan's policies have changed since then.

My point is that some consulates can work very quickly.

Presumably Kev, you are , like me , a holder of a British passport? That was the strange thing, I was told I need a visa , but she , On a Thai passport, didn't.
