Seem to be talking about different places here. the one I was talking of is opposite the small car park at Nong Sim and is almost certainly apartments. The one I think you are referring to as a restaurant is a little further up on the left towards the new traffic lights and is predominantly white and quite an arcitectural structure?

You are correct Paul I was talking about the wrong place. I just misread your post

I have seen that one too - my money says its going to be more (student?) apartments.

I was just confused because they are already appartments and have been there for a couple of years now, the only new building is the restaurant that I mentioned.

beg to differ, I would buy hotel before that. Paul, did you forget your hat again? My money is riding with admin.

I'm confused too??

Same goes for the thousands of tiny shops which sell coke/soft drinks and snacks. thet sit there all day with the fridges and lights running and make a baht or two from each soft drink they sell - they would have to sell hundreds a day to pay not only for the electricity of the fridges and lights but also to make it worthwhile sitting there all day. And yet almost daily another new one springs up. Amazingly there is one near me just opened literally right next door to one selling exactly the same things - logic ? hmmm This is Thailand !

The speed they sell items must mean that the vast majority are way past any sell by date.

Went past the new 'restaurant' today and if anyone goes past there - take a look a few doors down and there is a Thai style house being constructed from wood and it looks fantastic - really nice.

The apartments opposite the car park, last time I saw them were having a roof put on and were being painted - thats what led me to believe they were newly constructed. Who cares really ??? LOL

Thai style houses are indeed the "dog's bollocks", but it is almost impossible to get a Thai wife to have one.I think every farang wants a Thai style house and the Thai wife/GF a concrete job.

that's what i envisioned myself living in when moving here. instead it looks a rancher in florida. if i do it again, it will be thai, wood, lanna style i believe. if ever been to ban chiang, there is a beautiful wood house down one of the sois in town, have to peek at it every time i'm there. pure envy. if you drive in the north along the myanmar border, you see some amazing teak houses. more envy.

I have not been to the park for a time, but if I remember right, it has a nice large room on the first floor, like a loby or restaurant, therefore for two reasons I would not think
(student?) apartments.
- any student that could afford one, would not be going to school here, but in Bangkok - or two, no one in Udon would have an appartment building, with a large unrented space, maybe in the US, but I don't think so here!

If it is going to be a restaurant, then it looks expensive!

I cannot work out your post at all Dakoda????????

which part? the comment about the hat? (fried!) :) from early post TG said hotel, you said student apartments, and admin said restaurant!

Dakoda:

As stated a few posts back - we were talking about different places.
The building I was talking of is most definitely apartments, the restaurant almost nearing completion is a few hundred metres up the road (still overlooking Nong Sim).

So much new construction - no wonder people get confused.

As stated earlier there is also a monstrous wooden structure going up on the lakeside of Nong Prajak - which also looks like a restaurant (and is definitely NOT student apartments LOL)

Definitely sounds like the top of a property cycle. Will the cool down in Bangkok ever radiate out to Udon?

i hope so, but i don't think so. they keep building, somebody is buying, can't be the farangs, too many to buy. they all have trucks/cars, because there isn't any parking anymore, and it takes a long time to get thru town, compared to 5 yrs ago.
