UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

The other 350million has so far gone to pay for the various studies and official guarantees that it can be built

The Swansea cost is for "construction" at GBP 27m in 2005 add 10% for inflation would be about GBP30m or 150m Baht

statts, its no wonder you are so popular with Immigration when you go in for your annual renewal !
The rate you quote is 5 baht to the Pound ! :yikes:
I thought times were supposed to be getting easier for us Brits ??
Current rate is around 53.3 baht to the Pound,so 30m GBP would equate to about 1599m Baht......see,your richer than you thought big style !!
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

So, what happened to the 500 million and 25,000 capacity?
I will guess that only the main stand will have a roof, as it`s easier and cheaper to expand the rest of the stadium when it don`t have a roof. If the main stand hold 5000 and the rest 5000, then the rest can be expanded to 15-20 thousand, or more, if needed at some point, and a roof can be build all over to complete the stadium.

Statto, perhaps I can take it on myself on behalf of the farang community and Udonmap to say, that if you're planning any kind of financial transaction, there are lots of helping hands out there! ;)

For my part, I'm considering buying a calculator for the first time in my life.

My only excuse is that I only ever get to spend B55, B60 or B70 depending on the venue in any transaction.
The misses is the only one in our household who ever gets to see (and spend) the thousands and upwards

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Svein66 » August 27, 2014, 11:49 am

It`s still a long way to go before UDFC is in D1, but let`s look at next season anyway.

There will be 20 teams in Division 1 in 2015, making it 38 matchdays (12 more than UDFC has this season).
5 of the 20 teams will be relegated, as Division 1 will go back to 18 teams again from 2016. This year 4 teams will be relegated to Division 2.

As it looks now the league might start in late January or early February, so it won`t be a long break for the D2-clubs who get promoted, as the Regional Champions League probably don`t end until December 12, and then they have to play for the Regional Championship the next 2 weekends. (Playing for places 1-4)

Division 1 and TPL this season ends on November 1/2, so the current D1-teams, and the ones who get relegated from TPL, gets around 3 months to get ready for a new season, while the promoted D2-teams might not get more than 5-6 weeks, so it won`t be easy to play in D1 as a newly promoted team.

The transfer window opens on November 5 and closes on January 28. Many players will already have signed for new clubs, when the promoted D2-clubs gets ready to make their squad of players good enough for D1.

If UDFC don`t get promoted this season, they will have to play Khon Kaen next season as they will be relegated from D1. Yasothon United will also be back in D2 after a year out due to stadiumproblems. That makes it 14 teams in North-East + UDFC and/or Ubon UMT if they fail to get promotion.
Roi Et United looks like they will keep their place in D1 (6 points above relegation now).

But before all of the above, a trip to Amnat this Sunday...:)

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Brian Davis » August 29, 2014, 6:08 am

Udon have all but qualified for the Champions League. I really don't think they have such an impressive team as last season, particularly the foreign element, so interesting to see how they fair. At least financial problems seem a thing of the past and there won't be that concern, which may have played a part last year.
Ideally the Club should be prepared for promotion - I don't feel very enthusiastic about going up, struggling and getting relegated again (although elsewhere perhaps I should be used to it! :-k ), particularly with the Club's plans for the future.
As you've explained, Svein, it's a difficult scenario for the Club over players, IF they did gain promotion. We hear that the management/administration is very busy and virtually no help to you with information for your websites etc. I do hope this busyness (is that a word?) extends to identifying possible future players NOW, so the Club can move quickly if and when. I doubt the transfer system is quite as mad as the UK, where one has this ridiculous last day rush of registrations, but Udon will have to strengthen and need to get new players in asap.

Could Tony Pulis be coming to Udon ?? .... he was spotted in central , or was it his double ? His agent remained tight lipped when questioned , sorry no link to post.

The Thai league system seems to change like the wind making it very difficult for smaller clubs to progress , im not very keen on the current way teams have to get promoted ie a mini champions league and think the same easier format 2 legged and then final playoff system used in the Brit leagues would be better .

There are a few clubs in the current play-off system that got promoted from D2 and has done very well.
Chiang Rai United (promoted from D2 in 2009 - now in TPL),
Songkhla United (promoted 2010 as Buriram FC - now in TPL),
Phuket (promoted 2010 - been in D1 since),
Chainat (promoted 2010 - now in TPL),
Saraburi (promoted 2010 - been in D1 since),
Bangkok FC (promoted 2010 - been in D1 since),
Ratchaburi (promoted 2011 - now in TPL),
Nakhon Ratchasima (promoted 2011 - been in D1 since),
Krabi (promoted 2011 - been in D1 since),
Ayutthaya (promoted 2012 - still in D1),
Trat (promoted 2012 - still in D1).

That makes it 11 promoted clubs from 2009-2012 who now are in TPL (4) or D1 (7).

Of the 4 clubs who got promoted to D1 last season, only 1 (Phitsanulok) looks like getting relegated again. The 3 others are currently number 5, 6 and 12.
These numbers might be good news for UDFC, even if they have a short time to prepare.
Thai-Fussball said last night on twitter that the draw for Regional Champions League 2014 will be held on September 26 or 27, and the first round of matches to be played on October 1st (a Wednesday). That date might be wrong, as I don`t think they will play mid-week matches. They haven`t before...

Since there are 6 leagues in D2, I think the play-off system is good. If they were to only play cupgames to get promoted, it could more be up to refs to decide who got promoted, or a team could have 1 or 2 very good and/or lucky days. With a 10-game league, there`s a much bigger chance that the best teams are the ones who get promoted.

But I think they should change to 2 leagues (A & B) in D2, with the best 2 from both going up, and then have 3-4 leagues in D3, and maybe also getting a 4th level.
Clubs who want to get into D2 now, has to qualify through a cupsystem in January each year.

I've seen absolutely nothing about Pulis since he left Palace, maybe holidaying somewhere. Might well be Thailand? ;) Maybe Svein will bump into him in Sizzlers!
I've had quite a bit of experience, good news and bad, of the Uk promotion system and it would be sorted a lot quicker than the Thai system. Here, to have to play another c. 2 months after the normal season seems onerous and, as Svein indicates, leaves a lot less time to get 'your house in order' for the higher level, if you achieve promotion.
That said, I have to agree with Svein's points that playing more games in a mini-league SHOULD sort out the stronger candidates for promotion, although inept or 'got at' (allegedly ) officials still appear to play a part.

That's interesting stats there Svein on Clubs which have gained promotion and Clubs have done better than I would have imagined. Yes, hope for Udon. It would be nice to know the formula these Clubs used to maintain their status, or go even better. Money would clearly feature! Do I take it that, as you've looked at four seasons, that 16 Clubs were promoted during those years? If 11 have remained in Div 1 or TPL, then 5 have come down again to Div 2?

There was 18 clubs promoted during the 2009-2012 seasons, so 7 are now back in D2, but not all of them went back down in their first season up.
In 2009 only 3 clubs was promoted. In 2010 there was 7 clubs, due to expansion of both TPL and D1. Snce 2011 there`s been 4 clubs going up.

2009-2013: 22 clubs up from D2 to D1. As the D1-table looks today, 14 of those will be playing in TPL or D1 in 2015. That`s around 63%, and I think that`s a very good number.

A negative thing with all clubs having to go through a play-off for promotion to D1, is that a club might win their league year after year, but fail again and again in the play-offs. When you win a league, you should also get promoted, but unless you have no more than 2-3 leagues in each Division, you need to have a play-off somewhere, or relegate "half" the Division above.

Since Loei City won today, UDFC can not qualify for the Champions League tomorrow. They need 4 more points...

Give the supporters hope that they have a change to make promotion to D1
