22nd January 2015 Udon Golf.
Quite a few bleary eyed guys surfaced this morning at The Blue Bar in Khon Kaen for our English breakfast. Last night our group got together for dinner and drinks and as always some forgot they had a game the next morning.
Regardless, 16 of us assembled at the Ubolrat Dam Course this morning for a 10am tee off. The course was in good condition and although the greens lacked the speed of Singha they were still great.
Format was Stable ford with 4 man teams, the scores of each player were added up to determine the winning team.
As well we had the Best individual score and also Closest to the pin on2 par 3 holes.
Weather was perfect once again and just as well as there were some low scores recorded compared to yesterday Singha results.
Winning Team was Graham Firth, Jacque Messier, John Cooke and Chuck Mc Cormick with 125 points narrowly defeating the Team of Ian Barrett, Terry Aston, Denni Price and Gordon Gaygill by 2 points.
Overall Winner was Terry Aston with 39 points with Graham Firth in second with 37 points.
Closest to the Pin on 2 par 3 holes went to Jacque Messier and Brynjar Gudmundsson.
A most successful 2 days with not one hassle and everyone involved competing in the spirit of the group.

26th January 2015 Udon Golf Society Round Results.
Slightly warmer conditions at Srithani Forest Golf Course this morning for our weekly Society round. The course definitely is drying out more which helps with additional run, but does provides some crazy bounces off the fairway.
Graham Firth in only his second round following a break blitzed the field with 24 points front nine followed up with 18 on the back to finish with 42 points. An outstanding performance which will earn him a sizeable handicap cut.
Rex individual 37 and Jacque Messier 36 finished respectively in 2nd and 3rd position.
Jereld Sawyer won both Closest to the Pin Prizes on the par 3 holes.
Overall Scores- Graham Firth 42,Rex individual 37,Jacques Messier 36,John Cooke 35,Terry Aston 34,Tony Jones & Jereld Sawyer 33,David Exley &Gordon Caygill 32,Chuck Mc Cormick 28,Peter Hellery 26.
Next Monday 2nd February is the first of our Monthly Medal Rounds. 8 15am rollup 8 30am Tee off.

Friday 30th January 2015 Udon Golf
Ubolrat Dam Results.
Numbers slightly down with only 12 today at tee off but this did not detract from a most enjoyable round.
Weather great at no more than mid 30’s and course as usual in good condition even though there are differences with the fairways where they seem to water some more than the other.
Low scores today which surprised a touch with Anders Lincoln 32 points emerging as the winner. Graham Firth and Chuck Mc Cormick both with 30 points finished 2nd and 3rd.
Terry Aston won the only Closest to the Pin prize on the par 3 hole.

x This Monday Medal Round at Srithani Forest 8 15 am rollup 8 30am tee off.

2nd Feb 2015 Medal Round Udon Golf Society
Great weather for an 8 30 am tee off this morning at Srithani for our Monthly Medal Round. Numbers slightly down due to a number of legit reasons but with 12 in attendance still a good size group.
Course was ok except for the bunkers but then that is always a problem so nothing different.
The difficult par 5’s continue to be the holes that cause us all the most problems and today was no exception with even the February Medal Winner Anders Lincoln recording an 11 on the 15th.
Ist Anders Lincoln 72 nett
2nd Gordon Caygill 73 beating 3rd John Cooke on a countback.
Terry Aston and John Cooke won the 2 closest to the pin on the par 3 holes.
Overall Scores-Anders Lincoln 32,John Cooke & Gordon Caygill 33,Terry Aston & Rex individual 75,Graham Firth 7 Chuck Mc Cormick 77,Jacque Messier 78,Tony Jones 84, David Exley 98. Ian Barrett n/r (unwell)
Next Monday’s Society Round reverts to Stable ford which is far less demanding.

9th Feb 2015 Udon Golf Society Results
Pleased with the numbers today at our Society Round at Srithani as 14 is a good roll up considering there were still quite a few regulars unavailable.
Weather perfect with Temperature around the 29 degrees and a light wind helped make the round most pleasurable.
Stable ford format and this was reflected in the improved scores although the inconsistent greens once again made it tough at times.
Gordon Caygill with 37 points won the day narrowly beating an improved Tony Jones on 36 in second spot, with Rex individual the Srithani specialist in third with 35 points.
Per Hansen and Rex individual won the two closest to the pin prizes on the par 3 holes.
Overall Scores:- Gordon Caygill 37,Tony Jones 36,Rex individual 35,Jacque Messier& Terry Aston 34, Anders Lincoln, Jereld Sawyer & Kevin Dunne 33, Graham Firth, Paul Samme & Chuck Cormick 30,Per Hansen 27,Gary Parks 26,David Exley 23.
This Wednesday 11th for anyone who would like to join us we will be playing Srithani again. Format dependent on the numbers who turn up at 8 15am.

Udon Golf Wednesday Round
Udon Golf Results.
Most enjoyable round of Scramble today at Srithani Forest Golf Course for nine of us who rolled up for our mid week game. Normally we would play Ubolrat but the course is substandard at the moment with inconsistent speed greens and non grassed approach areas. Add to this the 840 baht Green/Caddy fee they are charging and it is easy to see why even the Nong Khai Group is avoiding playing the course at this time.
It was Sports Day at Srithani today with reduced prices so many on the course,we were wiseto tee off earlier than usual.
The team of Jacques Messier,Gary Parks and Graham Phillips were incredibly 4 under after the 2nd hole which certainly gave then a great start. This turned out to be the winning score for them just pipping Rex individual,David Exley and Terry Aston by 1 stroke as they finished with 3 under.
Graham Firth,Anders Lincoln and John Cooke were also not far off the mark with 1 under.

Ubolrat Friday Round this week with a 9 15am Tee off. Please be there early to enable us to hit off on time.

13th February 2015 Ubolrat Friday Round Results
Overcast sky and the look of rain as we teed off at Ubolrat this morning with our Friday group. Temperature very golf friendly and the course as usual was in great condition.
A good roll up of 14 members split in to four groups to play a Stable ford round. The usual light hearted banter preceded our tee off which always makes Fridays get together a special time of the week.
Paul (I never win anything) Samme with 36 points led the field to take the points from Jacques Messier 36 points and in third position Gordon Hazel by countback from Chuck Mc Cormick with 33 points.
Chuck and Graham Firth won the two closest to the Pin prizes on the par 3 holes. & Chuck Mc Cormick
Overall Scores- Paul Samme 36,Jacques Messier 35,Gordon Hazel & Chuck Mc Cormick 33,Terry Aston & John Cooke 32,Trevor Edge 30,Per Hansen & David Exley 28. Peter Hellery & Tony Jones 27, Jarno Oman 26, Graham Firth & Anders Lincoln 24.
Monday 8 15 am roll up for 8 30 tee off at Srithani Forest Golf Course for our weekly Udon Society Round next week.

16th February 2015 Udon Golf Society Results.

Graham Firth recorded his first ever Hole in One at Srithani at the Par 3, third hole in our Society Round this morning.
Louie his regular Caddie suggested Graham take a 6 in lieu of his 7 iron which obviously helped.
You could say Graham was a touch delighted and rightly so. Congratulations mate well done.

Today’s Results.
For the first time in ages rain fell this morning around the Srithani Forest Golf Course area which for a moment or two threatened our Society Round.
However, as is often the case rain falls and then when it ceases high humidity envelopes the course, as was the case today.
The only down side to this morning’s rain was that it appreciably slowed down the greens resulting in uncertainty for the majority with their putting. Pleasing to see though that the Ground staff have also been proactive with the bunkers as sand now is more plentiful compared to previously having to chip off soil?
A good attendance of 14 was pleasing seeing quite a few were away. Terrific to see former regular Peter Wirth join us for his first round in over a year. Peter will shortly be returning to France to have a hip replacement operation, we wish him well.
New member Rudolf Fischer playing with the Society and the course for the first time showed enough to suggest he will be a legitimate competitor and a positive addition to our Society.
Kevin Dunne played his last game with us until his likely return in November as he is returning to the UK shortly. Paul Samme also departs this week for a month or more to New Zealand as he is part of the UK Barmy Army group.
Rex individual with 38 points won the day’s Stable ford round with Terry Aston 37 in second spot followed by Chuck Mc Cormick in third with 36 points.
Rudolf Fischer won the Closest to the Pin prize on the 17th Par 3 hole.
Overall Scores. Rex individual 38,Terry Aston 37.Chuck Mc Cormick 36,Jacques Messier & Jereld Sawyer 35,Paul Samme 33,Graham Firth 32,Kevin Dunne & Gordon Caygill 31,Rudolf Fischer 30,Gary Parks & Tony Jones 28,David Exley 26,Peter Wirth 25,Joe McGowan 22.

This Wednesday 18th some of the group will be teeing off at 8 30am at Srithani. The format will be determined at tee off dependent on the numbers that turn up. Please be there by 8 15am if you intend to play.
Please note the 8 30am Tee off, as today we stated 7 30am, but following discussion with Srithani regular Rex individual he feels there is no advantage gained by the earlier start.

18TH Feb 2015 Udon Golf Society Results
The Rain forecast fortunately did not eventuate so our Round at Srithani today was interruption free thankfully for the 11 of us who turned up to play a Stable ford round.
The greens were a touch faster than Monday but the approaches to the Greens have grown again and if you were not half ok with your wedges, pitching or chipping in was difficult.
Surprisingly though for the overall condition of the course scores were very low as indicated with Terry Aston 32 points snatching the win from Jacques Messier on countback and Gary Parks with 30 points finishing 3rd also on countback over Tony Jones and Anders Lincoln.
Rex individual won the only Closest to the Pin on the par 3 prize.
Overall Scores- Terry Aston & Jacque Messier 32,Gary Parks, Tony Jones & Anders Lincoln 30,Rex individual 29,Rudolf Fischer 28,
Joe Mc Gowan 24, Jereld Sawyer 23, Graham Phillips 21,
Graham Firth 19.
Next Round is the Ubolrat Dam Competition on Friday with Tee off at 9 15am and then next Monday at Srithani a Society Round with tee off at 8 30am.(if you turn up please see Gary Parks as he will supervise the round.)

20th Feb 2015 Ubolrat Competition.
Heavy rain had fallen on the Ubolrat Dam area pre our tee off this morning. As a result the course was extremely soft limiting length off the tee for most of us. This of course did not inconvenience the big hitters in Jacques Messier, Jereld Sawyer and Jarno Oman who still hit the ball a mile.
Jacques with 36 points easily won the day with Anders Lincoln 32 points in second and Jereld Sawyer in third with 31 points.
Jarno Oman and Jereld Sawyer won the 2 closest to the pin prizes on the Par 3 holes.
Overall Scores- Jacques Messier 36, Anders Lincoln 32, Jereld Sawyer 31,Graham Firth 30, David Exley & Terry Aston 29,Gary Parks & Jarno Oman 28,Anders Nielsen 22.
Next week as many of us are away there will not be an official Friday Competition.

2nd March 2015 Udon Golf Society Medal Round
A good roll up of members for our March Medal Round at Srithani this morning. Weather was ok although humidity was high most of the round.
The course is in need of a cut plus work to be carried out on the Greens as they were inconsistent. They were either very slow on some and then later very quick which made putting a real hit and miss situation.
Medal Rounds generally see the low handicappers shine and today was no exception with Rex individual winning the day with 70 nett followed by Jacque Messier inching Graham Firth out of second spot by countback with both on 72.
Rex individual and Gordon Caygill won the Closest to the pin prizes for the two par 3 holes.
Scores- Rex individual 70, Jacque Messier & Graham Firth 72,Anders Lincoln 73,Peter Hellery &Jereld Sawyer 76,Gordon Caygill 78,Chuck Mc Cormick 82& David Exley 82,Tony Jones & Gary Parks 83,John Cooke 84,Joe Mc Gowan 86 and a mentally disturbed Terry 93 lol.

Udon Thani Golf Society has introduced many hundreds of Farang expats to the Golf scene here in Udon.
Formed more than 15 years ago the Society provides a weekly competition that enables new players to attain their first handicap or have their existing one maintained.
Our members come from all Nationalities which gives the Society an International flavor. For many Farangs the Society assists in being the best avenue to meet new friends and also learn first hand from those who are based permanently in Udon or the surrounding areas.
Although the Society only plays once a week at Srithani Forest Golf Course ie Monday mornings, with an 8 15am tee off there are many opportunities to join smaller groups formed by members to play on the other days of the week.

Our Rules are simple,we play as close as possible to the Rules of Golf with a few Local Rules due to the conditions of the courses.
Correct Golf Etiquette is required by all members at all times to assist in creating a Social atmosphere. So if you are prepared to respect the right of others to enjoy their golf as well as your own and desire to be part of an organized social competition then Udon Thani Golf Society should be your first option.

We also provide you feedback on the best courses to play here and in Khon Kaen,Green and Caddy fees etc at each location.
The Society is a non profit organization and supports local charities from weekly donations. Currently we support the Udon Home for Children a most worthy cause.

Please feel free to contact us for any further information either through this Forum or at [email protected] or 0898316178.

6th March 2015 Udon Golf Ubolrat Friday Competition.
A good group of guys turned up this morning at Ubolrat Dam in stifling heat to play our regular Friday Round.
The temperature was in the very high 30 degree range. Add to that high humidity and it was easy to see why some of us struggled especially on the back nine holes.
The course was in top condition with the greens a touch faster than usual.
Our low handicapper Jacques Messier made light of the heat though to record a 39 point round to win the day. Chuck Mc Cormick in a terrific return to form had 37 points to finish second with Trevor Edge also in form in third with 35 points.
Trevor Edge and Jacques Messier also were in the winner’s circle with their success in the two closest to the pin prizes on the 3rd and 12th par 3 holes.
Scores- Jacques Messier 39,Chuck Mc Cormick 37,Trevor Edge 35,David Exley & Peter Hellery 33,Denni Price & Gordon Hazel 31,Graham Firth, Jano Oman & Anders Nielsen 29,Terry Aston, Anders Lincoln &Per Hansen 27,Tony Jones 23.
Next Round is at Srithani Forest Golf Course Monday 9th March for our weekly Udon Society Round with an 8 15am draw.

Udon Thani Golf Society Round tomorrow morning 9th March at Srithani Forest Golf Course with a draw at 8 15am enabling tee off at 8 30am. Very hot weather forecast so don't forget your Electrolyte drink to make sure you hydrate continually on your round. Best to make sure also you have hydrated well pre your tee off, as Srithani can be extremely humid to start the day due to them watering the course around 6am. Format for tomorrow is Stableford which is a touch kinder than last weeks Stroke round.
Look forward to seeing you all there to enjoy the day.

Subject:Great Golf

Rex individual is a member of both our Udon Thani Golf Society and IFGG and played in the Thai Tournament yesterday.I thought it would be interesting for those who know Rex.

I played in the Thai tournament yesterday 7th March at Srithani Golf Forest and if I had not taken a 10 on the first par 5 I would have won by one stroke. Such is golf !

They raised 1.4 million baht and gave away 200,000 baht in prizes. I won a sleeve of Pro v-1x balls and a rather nice standing electric fan. They served lunch and had snacks at almost every other hole..... then in the evening the award ceremony with beer soft drinks and a lot of good Thai food. ..

I have played many tournaments that were not as nice or as well run as the one they put on yesterday. It helps that I speak a little Thai so it seemed everyone wanted to let me know I was welcome. They had A, B, B2, C, and ladies flights broken down by handicaps... As usual the higher handicaps won the day. Our flight was capped at 10 handicap and he (10 handicapper) won where our 5 handicap shot 70 one behind the winner for second place.

The two Thai guys I played with were gentlemen and fun to be with. A good time was had by all.

That I drank 4 cups of coffee before I went to the course today is the only thing I can come up with for the 10 on the par 5.. Before play I hit one tray of balls and knew I was having problems right off the bat.. I did not even lose a ball and still took a 10 ! I thought my caddy was going to hit me but I am very happy I played the event !
Most of the big wigs of Udon were in attendance and even a movie star the girls all flocked around to get a picture with. I finally made an announcement that I was his manager and each picture would cost them 20 baht... Again I thought the girls were going to beat me !!. It was a big deal for the Thais and I would say "fun was had by all"!

9th March 2015 Udon Thani Golf Society Round.
Very humid conditions as expected at tee off this morning for our weekly Society Round at Srithani Forest Golf Course.
There was as normal a good social feel with the group in attendance and this we believe is as important as the Round itself.
Conditions were a touch below average as the course had not been maintained since the huge tournament they had there on Saturday.
Regardless of this though there were some really good scores recorded with Jereld Sawyer’s 40 points exceptional to win the day.
Mr Consistent Graham Firth was not far behind though in second spot with 37 points. Ian Barrett with 35 points came in third which again was a fine effort.
Both closest to the Pin prizes on the par 3 holes went to Anders Lincoln which is the first for a long time since one person has won both.
Scores- Jereld Sawyer 40,Graham Firth 37,Ian Barrett 35,Anders Lincoln 34,John Cooke & Gordon Caygill 32,Jacque Messier 31,Tony Jones 30,Rex individual 29,Terry Aston & David Exley 28,Chuck Mc Cormick 27,Gary Parks 21.
Gary Parks comment following his 21 points cracked me up when he stated is 21 points was a result of him not wanting to peak too early before the IFGG 2 day comp next Tuesday/Wednesday in Khon Kaen.
Next Monday’s Society Round will be as usual at 8 15am for deciding on groups and then 8 30am for tee off. Many of us will be absent due to the IFGG the following 2 days but we encourage those who are not involved in that to come along.
