How to transfer a car from on providence to another?

Post by felixcat » November 27, 2016, 5:29 pm

Am buying a Camry from a Gent, paid a deposit, he wants to do his paperwork, with our house book, ID card copy, then give to us to complete the transfer.
Can anyone help with this?
Some how, I feel this will turn into a problem.
Let me know what you think
Thanks

If it's like transferring a big bike, there's nothing to it.

1. Fill out the transfer form with the seller and get their signature.

2. Get the original registration blue book.

3. Signed copy of ID and blue house book (If foreigner, signed copy of passport and yellow house book OR immigration letter verifying legal status).

4. Go to DMV with all of it.

Done.

DMV will take the old plate and issue a plate for the province where you're registering it. They'll also want proof of insurance.

Also, the seller did not have to be present as long as everything was signed properly and properly identified with the signed copies.

Did this transferring from Roi Et to Udon Thani and from Udon Thani to Ubon Ratchithani in two separate transactions about 4 years apart. Done the same way both times. No problems.

Good luck.

I just reread your explanation, and it jogged my memory. In my cases, the seller didn't have to do anything other than accept the money, sign the transfer form, turn over the registration book, and sign all of his ID copies for me to bring to DMV.

The seller in both of my instances had no paperwork to do and didn't request any house book or ID copies from me. Cash sales both of them.

I buy old motorbikes from all over the world using just a signed Bill of Sale, photocopies of passports /licence and orginal ownership papers with owners name on it and signed..

in udon I bought a bike and changed the ownership over without the owner present.. He signed the relevant transfer paper, gave me a copy of his passport photo page, signed by him, and the green book, and I did the rest at motor department...

Yep. Me too.

But I also needed an immigration letter or yellow house book copy signed if the seller was falang.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone had a different experience.

Thanks Guys, I got a motorbike in 2010 and needed a copy from the Apartment I lived at, next I bought a truck, did not need a letter, then 4 motorcycles, again, nothing. But this car is "major" for me, I need it following our motorbike accident. We want to ride a bit safer, although, I will probably buy another bike sometime in near future.
LoneStar, thanks alot.

Car has BKK plates which have already been transfered to Udon. Car and plates are registered in Udon Thani. All we are doing is owner transfer.

Here is a follow-up on this transfer process:
If someone tells you "All you need is the papers and you can transfer it yourself"
Don't believe them. You will be headed for a big problem.
Ask to see the book & insurance AND follow the transfer process. Seller HAS to take the car for inspection, pay the transfer fee, then you sign papers (at Inspection Office), pay the seller for auto, ect.
Don't lean anywhere from this, and all will go fine.
Like (I think) OldTimer says, I have no further investment here and will leave this forum now. Well spoken.
