Which News Websites Do You Use?

Post by jimjay » February 20, 2017, 5:45 pm

Not to get into debate much about the quality of each, but as I surf the net for news I am seeing some of the sites I went to are enforcing "paywalls" that demand one buys a subscription.

That caused me to search far and wide and read news sites from everywhere.

But I now ask, -which country are you from and what do you regard as a solid news website? The reason I ask is that I perhaps improperly assume that Brtits read BBC News by default. I could be wrong. I'm from the U.S. but I read BBC as a counter-point to anything state-side.

But what about Oz? NZ? SA? Holland? DE? Norway? Etc? Plenty of you on here probably hit the news at some point of day so I felt it worth asking, -as I am pretty sure I am missing some when I search.

I'm not asking about "information" sites but rather daily local, national, world news sites. They're all probably biased to some degree, -but as adults we can usually* tell the difference between being told what we want to hear vs. objective fact.

If possible can you put the link in too?

FACEBOOK. My reasoning is simple. My 'friends' post news on Facebook. Since they are my 'friends' they would not lie to me.

CBS and NBC nightly news. Google news which offers a variety of stories from a variety of sources. I follow N.Y. Times and Washington Post on Facebook. I get most of my Thai news from this site or Thaivisa. These two sites I consider as starting point to dig a little deeper if I see something of interest.

You can personalize Google news if you have a google account.

I have a CBC app on my phone get the local 5.30pm news at 8.30am and the national news half an hour later. It also works on my laptop but I prefer the phone as it is easier to move around,I can take it to the bathroom or kitchen .

All news has to be judged by looking at who is putting it out. There is no " real news" all news is subjective one mans' freedom fighter is another mans' terrorist.
