Vegetarian Restaurant

Postby jingjai » April 25, 2007, 6:30 pm

Have eaten lunch at this place a few times now and have enjoyed the food.
Thai/Chinese vegetarian food. They have both food in steam trays and cooked to order.
The owner is from Taiwan, but been here a few years as has the restaurant (I only found it last month).
Today I had cooked to order Phat Thai, a small order of some kind of eggplant/tofu dish, a free bowl of soup, and a nam manao shake. Total damge: 55 baht.
And yes, it was deelicous!
As I was finishing up my meal, she brought a big platter over to the next table for her family and staff, I asked what it was and she said "loung jim" (it's a fried yellow noodle dish), and then she proceeded to give me a small plate of it to sample. It was good, I'll have it next time.
The restaurant is located on Posri Rd., one shop west of where Posri intersects with Mookmontri Rd., map ref; J-10. There is a small sign on the steam table which reads: "Vegetarianism Health". Parking is a little difficult, I usually leave my car at the Ban Chiang Hotel carpark and walk the 200-300 meters.
I'm not sure if they are open for dinner.

Thanks for recommending what appears to be one more good Udon Thani restaurant. Great food with low cost is a good part of the Udon Thani attraction.

Tofu and accompaning vegetables and seasoning are easily combined to make many tasty dishes. My mouth is watering contemplating the fried yellow noodle dish. My wallet is purring over the thought of a 55 baht check bin.

Thank you!

I am always excited to hear about vegetarian restaurants in these parts. I will make it a point to hunt it down on Monday and give it a try.

Well, it was there a couple of years ago. As I recall, it was not quite obvious to me either. I went looking for it a couple of times; the time I went looking with my wife, she spotted it right way. But that was a couple of years ago.

There are several other vegetarian restaurants around town. All that i remember seeing were open-air restaurants on the ground floor of shop houses.

Most of them display red and yellow sings like that shown below, which is the Thai word for vegetarian, pronounced "Jay". We cannot remember whether the particular restaurant jingjai mentioned had this sign or not. If you drive around downtown (and traffic is not too heavy, so you actually have a moment or two to take your eyes away from the traffic), you are likely to spot a vegetarian restaurant or two.
