Availability of Western Food - It gets easier with time

Postby fatbas***d » January 8, 2008, 12:39 pm

What a remarkable change in availability of western food over the last decade.
The new Robinsons outside of Tops is stocking a good range of better quality goods.
On my last trip to Oz I brought a few spring form baking pans, now Robinsons stock them as well as Silicon baking forms.
I had run out of spray on baking release again the last of my ex Oz stock was gone, pleasant surprise yesterday in TOPs they now stock crisco spray pan release. It just gets more comfortable to live here when you can some of these previously hard to find items here, particularly when you are a keen home cook as I am.
Makro also stocks decent fresh herbs at good prices, real Lemons, Parsley, button mushrooms, its great =D>
All I need now is for someone to stock decent range of cheeses and Tortillas.

Try Dieter's Rauch Kate, Nobi's and the farang food market in Nong Khai.

Pickled Onions - Make your own plenty of small onions and vinegar about. Dean and Langs were excellant.
Vegemite - Available at a number of stores in Pattaya, 2 guys from Ban Dung heading down this week.
Salamis - Tesco's deli bar.
Sweet mustard pickles - FIIK.

Guys, It would be helpful to give an indication of the actual topic subject matter within the topic title. That way members can quickly determine if it is something they want to read about or not, without them having to open the topic to find out.

Thanks :D

The fat Man, Interesting that the very first post you make on this Forum is recommending a particular product being sold by a particular business. It makes me wonder if you have a vested interest or some sort of connection with the business in question!! :D

I've got some great stuff in my freezer too. I got it from Big C. ;) :D

Asked Steve, (Carpy), at JingJoes to have his new meat company make me up some, "Double smoked", American style bacon. He also has Wilshire style double smoked, as well.

The bacon came in a 1 kg packs, for only 200B.
Huge, and very lean pieces of bacon, thick sliced. Just like home.
The packs are consistent in flavor, size, and leanness.

I've tried all the bacon in Udon over the years, Carpy's hit the spot.

Plus, he has Baby Back Ribs that are the favorite in the U.S., which I could not find in Udon. Nor could I find anyone to cut them.

Quik-Fire BBQ Time for sure...:)

I also posted something similar in the "Sponsors" forum.
I stopped in yesterday to Good Everything Restaurant to try some of their new baked goods items and bought a Ciabatta to take home. Went great with the pasta dish I cooked.
I also got a slice of the lemon tart and Tia Maria cheesecake. Very, very good.
I can highly recommend. Quality items.
All the baked items looked very good.
The gentleman who is overseeing things these days has some very impressive credentials. He said he would do his best to fulfill any special items one may want.
Me, I'm going to have him bake me up a real New York Style Cheesecake very soon.
