With the Spring '08 semester coming-on will there be any remedial
course offerings at W.B. Univ? Jungle survival school? Understanding
STD's? Reasons to just say no? How to play dumb? Viability of
entering monkhood? I'm anxious to get started. Even if the hazing
involved repeatedly getting slapped around, that would be helpful.

cali, I believe there will be two new classes offered this next semester;

1. How to ensure you are the subject of the latest gossip.

and

2. How to ensure that you (the falang) receive the blame for any vehicular accident and pay the appropriate fine.

Stay tuned, I'm sure there will be a full curriculum within a few days.

A praise to WBU for outstanding academic exellence ...

I wonder if any of you has done post doctoral studies at WBU: What to do if things gets shitty and you love your little look krung (your child with Thai mother)?

Leave or kidnap or ....

philo, I don't think we should be advancing the idea of promoting illegal actions on this forum but, if 'little krung' is truly YOUR child (either adopted or natural) then it really shouldn't be called kidnapping should it?
:?

That's just an open question... I'm not encouraging any action in this regard.

Speaking WBU I just finished a refresher course on Gastro distress Image and I think the Prof. was trying to kill me.

Presently I am taking "Ethnic Living 101" here in the student ghetto of KKU :-k

I know this is all tongue-in-cheek but seriously, you really could
start a reference library with short papers on these many subjects.

Like attempting parenting in this cross-cultural landscape, that must
really be a minefield. Definitely need a starter course for this topic.

Driving in Thailand is no-fault for sure. I've yet to see a scrape where
the farang wasn't required to whip-out his checkbook. Drive safe.

I'll be following this thread closely. Learning by mistake the hard-way is
often fun, I'm just concerned this technique will affect my longevity.

Guys,
I recently completed a sucessful practical of the ensuring the falang is to blame for any vehicular accident.......
I parked my car one evening and went to do a little shopping. When I came back later I saw some flashing red & blue lights and a few people gathered near my car.
When I reached my car I saw that a motorbike ridden by an elderly Thai lady had run into my vehicle. The old dear was about to be carted off to hospital. My car was damaged at the back with the boot staved in and the back window partly smashed(Hatchback,Honda Jazz).
Apparently the old lady was forced to swerve by another vehicle and didnt see my car which is coloured black.
Anyway, our friendly Udon Police arrived on the scene & I went down to the Police Station to do my practical farang blame exam.
The results were as follows:
1.The accident was my fault as the old lady could not see my car.
2.I had to pay for the damage to her motorbike.
3.I had to pay for her hospital expenses.
4.I had to pay for the repairs to my car.
5.I had to pay for the Police time in compiling their report.
6.I had to pay compensation to the old lady for the injuries she received.

I think you will agree that is a pretty impressive set of results ! :D :D

Joking aside the most important thing, though,is that the old lady was discharged from the hospital after a few days and made a complete recovery.
I saw her at the Police Station a couple of weeks later and,too be quite honest,I think the problem was she is elderly and blind as a bat.....an accident waiting to happen.
Still, she helped me pass my practical with flying colours. :D

=D> =D> Congratulations Zidane =D> =D>

An outstanding performance indeed. All other students attending WBU should endevour to emulate your masterful display in "How to ensure that you (the falang) receive the blame for any vehicular accident and pay the appropriate fine."

In fact I believe you may well find yourself up for nomination at the University's prestigious annual ceremony for achievers of academic excellence, the TIT Awards!

Wow, got me beat. Now we know if our car is parked and hit, go back and do more shopping or visit the beer garden. Take tuk tuk home and pick car up the next day. Don't show up, I'm sure a local wouldn't have to pay. Take to insurance and play dumb.

Zidane your story seems to me to have some elements of urban myth attached to it.

Perhaps, for the benefit of others who may be involved in a similar incident in the future, you could explain if you tried to say no to the "requests' for payment, and if so, what was the reaction.

Of course, if you didn't say no, it may have been a (seemingly successful) try-on.
