Renewing the extension on a Non O Visa

Yes, I would certainly make sure you have a Thai bank a/c and a letter from the bank certifying it (the bank usually provide me with a photocopy of the pages in the passbook and then stamps and signs each page).

I too agree, as you have the 65K income certified by your Embassy, there is no requirement to have a specific amount in the bank a/c. That said, I usually make sure I have 100-200K upwards and evidence of transfers in from overseas, to ensure it looks good.

I too would agree, don't volunteer any additional documentation over what is required, but keep anything you think may be helpful up your sleeve!!

You no longer need a Doctor's certificate, but I think you may need a photo.

One thing that is very important, we all get nervous when we do this and tend to talk while they do thier paperwork. Save your comments and questions until you have a stamp in your book. If they want something else they will tell you.

Easier said the done

My experience is they wanted a current letter from the bank, either dated the day before or day of depending on when you go.

So far Nong Khai has excepted one from me within ten days. But a catch point is they want the balance on the bank book to match the bank letter.

But nothing has changed the officer can ask for whatever they want. So I try to keep them very close to what Arjay has posted. I also apply a few days early in cae something comes up that I need to deal with. The only thing that ha happened aliong those lines a missed copy that wa needed and one year a medical certificate that wasn't expected. They were in AEK at the time and it could be resolved quickly.

The one thing I always screw up is the copy of the passport pages I copy the entire thing and they look a bit frustrated throwing out papers. I simply don;t understand what they really need. So I use overkill

Good point!I think staying silent is the way to go.If they ask a question, wait till they look you in the eye because sometimes they are just mumbling comments and not really asking a question!

And then things change and websites aren't always up-to-date.

When I extended in Bangkok in October, they required a letter from my bank giving the details of at least one transfer of money from outside Thailand. The immigration officer I talked to in August (in preparation for extension) said this could be included in the same letter as the one that stated the balance.

But things chance...

Ok ,so in preparation for my extension on My first "O" visa, after an unrewarding trip to Loas to get get my three month "O" visa . Arrived today with scades of photo copies that they require, and after making referance to "did my wife and I do the bump di bump last night " laughter all around, thought it was quite funny, ther whole table was in on it ,I guess we didnt have enough proof from having our WEDDING CERTIFICATE and my wifes new thai (no capital) passport with my surname . The house book ,purchased for cash in December ,bank book photo copies ,statement from the bank showing over 2.7 milllion in transfers and atm withdrawals, then put into a thai account (used regulary )
But the thing they had a good giggle over was how little BALANCE I had in my account at the present time, doesn't matter the amount ya fkn idiot ! New wifes and homes are expensive.Had I not gotten married or purchased the new home,I would have 2.7 million in the bank ,follow the paper trail."NO ,he said. " I am only interested in this ,and circles my original copy of the bank statement balance ,which in small print at the top ,introduced me ,passport number and deposits in excess of 2.7 mil.(cost me 200 bhat for that at Siam and 100 at Kasikorn
So I am to return in a month to see, if ,after mailing my application to Bangkok they will allow me to stay in Thailand . My passport was stamped with no comments from the imm official, other than embarrasing my wife ,and yes I was dressed appropriately ,as was my new bride. It Reads " .....app of stay is under consideration ......
So they have withheld my 9 month extension based on the balance of my two thai and one canadian account ( wouldn't even look at that.)
So my predicament is I am going to Surikit heart center and voluntering to have open heart surgery and at this moment having 450000 transfered from Canada. You see I am not paying for the op unless I come out of it . So the day I am coming home from surgery ,will be the day I give them the cash . As it went with the angiogram.Which is why I chose to go 6 weeks ahead of expirey of my 3 month O.
Should I have waited for the funds to arrive before I went to Nong Kai ,yes, BUT IT IS NOT REQUIRED!! And his female sidekick to the left even hits the wife up for a hundred bhat for busted up bar of soap. She even said at the beggining of the ordeal to my wife " no problem, you have everything.
So I entered the office a whipped and beaten dog, kept my head down through the whole ordeal . Spoke when I was spoken to .
The tall guy ,fourth from th e window actually got up from his chair and dropped this thai written sentence ,that was highlighted ,and asked what my wife thought of that . Apperentely ,as she was blushing , it was an actual sentence from an actual form asking about (as she turned to me ) and said "it about sex with you and me last night,do or not do.? ) Then heir general says to me " what do you think of that ?" So being the "funny guy ,and card that I sometimes am ,said ,"AMAZING THAILAND" to the laughter and roar from the whole staff.
Now if you and I had just met ,and we were both conducting ourselves in a proffessional and courteous manner, and you made sexual references to my new bride ,I would A) have you up on sexual harrassment charges ,or B) crawl across that table and and apply in person to a whole bunch of trouble.
That notorised letter from the the candian Embassy clearly states 1850$ per month . And asks the Thai embassy to expedite "without let or hindrance ' (dont quote me on that heir general has it now . That fkn letter cost me return flight for two,a night in a decent hotel, a little shopping for the Mrs. and about 1800bhat . And he scratches his infamous blue and red pen taped together (watch the pen!)And in the scratch with the pen ,destoys a government ( mine) document.I cant even cash in a bill from canada (or elsewhere,if there is but the smallest imperfection (sorry another rant).
So afetr months of preparation I sit in front of THE MAN and we and wife do the three shell game."dont need this " "photo copy all" sign here . I do not even know ,at this stage what he gave me back and what he didn't.
After 19 years ,coming to thailand on a triple entry tourist visa ,this is how it goes.? Gotta run ,dinners on the table ! Sirit hospital tommorow !! Who loves thailand !!

38nholding, I am sorry to hear about all that happened to you today. I will have to discuss this more with you one on one, but if they had asked me about sex with my wife (if I had one) or my girlfriend, I would be in lockup awaitng deportation, or worse, because it would not have gone well. How you could accept that, if beyond my thinking.

What did you mean "it was an actual sentence from an actual form asking about" (as she turned to me ) and said "it about sex with you and me last night, do or not do?

You must be joking..??

Now as I promised this is my account of my visit to Nong Khai Immigration on Tuesday of this week to extend my Non-O retirement visa. I am not married and this is not a business visa.

NEEDED:

Signed copies of a house book and I.D. card.

One copy of pertinent passport pages.

Bank Book

Copies of every page of bank book.

Notarized US Embassy paper showing I have required income (good for 2 years).

NOT NEEDED:

ATM slips or proof of incoming money.

Proof of foreign bank statements.

--------

I went there with a friend and his wife, who is a school teacher. I specifically asked her to go because she takes no guff from them at all. And they seem to listen to what she has to say.

Here is the only problem I had. He asked for signed copies of my house book. As I am a renter with a landlord that does not want to surrender these copies without threats of me going to the police (See my post regarding my 5 year driver's license for more on that). Well unless I am really loosing my mind, I do not remember having to supply copies of a house book on my last year's extension or my 9 month extension the prior year.

So, I beckoned the teacher who was sitting patiently, and she said, "Oh I will guarantee that he lives at the address on the application". She gave him copies of her book and ID card and it was a done deal ! But he was sending me back to Udon for that until she stepped in.

Can anyone else tell me if they have had to supply a house book for a visa extension?

One more thing, I got out in the hall and sat down to check things over and noticed he had not stamped it with the word "retirement'* in Thai. So I went back and poitind this out and he did that after looking everywhere for the stamp. That could have been a problem, I think, if that was not stamped there.

* By the way, when I ask Thais what that stamp translates to they say "old person"..

I think Jack is refering to an incident I was involved in up there where I did get the Supervisor involved and had the matter resolved in my favour. No points for quessing who the prick of an Immigration Officer was involved.

I might add that at that time (about 18 months ago) there was a big sign both in the foyer and in the main office saying something like "Ask to see the Supervisor if you are not happy with our service"

Just be informed that there is an alternative for over 50 year olds. Jackspratt put me onto it and both he and I do it. After 3 years of "O" visa extensions I had a gut full of dealing with that lot at NK and having them continuely digging into my financial affairs and pissing me around.

Anyway, get a multiple entry "OA" visa issued from your home country. Play the game and you keep the visa going for 2 years. No 90 day border crossings as with the normal 12 month multi entry "O" visa. Each time you come into the country they stamp a full 12 months. During the 2nd year you have to get e re-entry permit. EASY =D>

But also be aware that during the 2nd 12 months you will not get a further 12 months when you re-enter. You will only get up to the balance of that (2nd) 12 months.
