Siri Grand Hotel

Postby Duncan & Lek » January 2, 2006, 3:33 am

Hi there,

Just joined this site as have thoroughly enjoyed my previous visits in Issan , we are back in Udon for a few days at the end of the week from the UK and Lek my wife wants us to stay in the Siri Grand Hotel as her Niece lives nearby.

On my last couple of trips we have stayed at a hotel at the western end of Srisuk Rd which was terrific value. Anybody ever stayed at the Siri Grand and would you recommend it please.

Many thanks

Duncan.

I stayed there on my 1st ever trip to Udon, was a good few years ago mind, but back then it was pretty reasonable with good, clean rooms.

Certainly nothing bad to say about the place.

Welcome to the forum by the way and have a great trip :)

Of course not to be confused with the Charoensi Grand Royal Hotel - be aware.

Brief Stay

Postby Garnet » January 2, 2006, 12:27 pm

I stayed at the Siri Grand in early 2003. I liked it very much! A pool, small workout room with attendant female and cute masseuse (I never used either). It was in this establishment that my fiancee and I got to truly know one another, so possibly the combination of the hotel figuring into my first visit to Thailand and the obvious romantic connection that developed therefrom is colouring my recollection. I now realize that it is a tad distant from the sort of locales that a single Westerner might want to frequent, but I was ignorant of all of that 'way back then! Personally, I'd be happy just to book the Top Mansion now! Close to everything I'd want! No pool, of course, but the Complex is near by if you really want something like that. And you can always find a massage--as fantastically imagined or wholesomely justified as you might like!

Garnet, I think you're talking about the Charoensri Grand Hotel. From what I remember the Siri Grand doesn't have a pool or workout room.

Me neither to be quite honest, but i didn't really spend a lot of time hunting for the hotel facilities.

Thanks for the replies folks, will probably give it a go anyway as not to worried about a pool.

Will be backwards and forwards to Ban Penh most days so really just somewhere to get our heads down.

Have found info on a lot of bars that I didn't know about from this forum so look froward to trying a few out in the evenings.

Cheers

Duncan.

Error!

You're right, Lee and Sean--further reflection makes me realize that the Siri Grand had no swimming pool. That was the Napalai Hotel. However, I am certain that the workout room existed at the Siri Grand. And the cute girl offering the massages. I was just far too shy then to undergo this treat.

Anyone have a more recent experience with the hotel? Trying to plan for a trip in early November of this year.

I stayed at the Sari Grand on Feb 25 for one night. The hotel is ok. Aircon was good. The hotel staff is helpful. The buffet breakfast was nothing special. Hotel has a decent van for airport transfer. Hope this helps.

I have stayed there last year for 3 days. As a complete tour package, Udon Thani was best bet for hurricane tour with places like Yung Thong Waterfall, Tham Erawan and Udon Thani Museum . Siri Grand Hotel was quite good with nice and clean atmosphere, room service were very prompt. Not to forget that the girls at local pubs were very tempting for me. :D
