Football (Soccer) Rumours

Postby BobHelm » May 24, 2008, 1:07 pm

Well, the season is nearly over - Premiership play off final today last day of season (good luck to Hull & Bristol City, although I will be amazed if either would manage to last out more than 1 season). I know that Euro 2008 starts soon but no UK/Ireland representatives so that will be of mild interest to me only.
But it is now of course the season of "merry go round" of rumours of who is going where - players & managers. Here is my favourite of todays' BBC ones...
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and former coach Jose Mourinho have shared three "cosy chats" in the last six weeks, but Frank Rijkaard remains favourite to replace Avram Grant. (The Sun)

Although the primary source is "The Sun" so I guess should be taken with a pinch of salt...
What is your favourite rumour???

The one I liked best so far was that Zinedine Zidane was to be appointed manager of QPR

BBC wrote:Chelsea's Nicolas Anelka has voiced his discontent at being used as a winger by coach Avram Grant and insists he must play centre forward next season. "I didn't come here to play on the right or on the left," he said. (L'Equipe, 1000)

That guy really pi55es me off. You get paid ridiculous money to play football. He should be grateful for playing in the first place. He should play in goal, right-back, midfield or stick a brush up his ar5e and sweep the dressing room. He is living every schoolboy's dream. (Well apart from my one involving Deirdre "Jugs" Kelly and baby oil.) The dozy prick was so busy thinking about his next transfer and how much he would pocket from the move he fluffed his penalty.

Absolutely not going to happen.I was approached by QPR but have decided to stay in Udon :D

Bob,as regards Chelsea,I would think Rijkaards reputation has suffered a bit recently.....more likely Roberto Mancini from Inter Milan to take over.

Alan, completely agree about Anelka...an absolute mercenary.I wouldnt wish him even on Liverpool....honest :D

Hows about this one, though.Gareth Barry signs for Liverpool but Steven Gerrard is being courted by Barcelona as a replacement for Deco.

Hopefully they just take him to a movie and do not drop the hand and just leave him back home like perfect gentlemen... :D

BBC wrote:Real Madrid have a club car ready and waiting for Cristiano Ronaldo. Photograhed in a car park, the top-of-the-range Audi has a handwritten notice on the dashboard saying: "Deliver to Cristiano Ronaldo". (Spanish sports paper Marca, 1008 BST)

Tottenham will make a straight £15m cash offer for Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka and £10m for right-winger Shaun Wright-Phillips. (Daily Express)

BBC wrote:So it's all over for Avram Grant. He's gone. Sacked by Chelsea and rumour has it with a £5.2m pay off.

Who will take over? The bookies have Frank Rijkaard as the early favourite with Guus Hiddink, Roberto Mancini and Sven-Goran Eriksson also in the frame (1945 BST)

But what price for Jose Mourinho? Well, actually his odds tumbled from 20/1 down to 8/1 on Saturday after the sacking - surely that's not going to happen?

See the Avram Grant sacked thread on this......
But more rumours from the BBC involving Liverpool personnel.

Juventus after Alonso and Riise (always used to rate Alonso although last season was maybe not his best).
And Newcastle, apparently, trying to offload Obefami Martins to Liverpool.
Surely not I.A. !!!

BBC now have a whole page of its own to discuss the rumours about the new Chelsea manager..
Chelsea Manager
Reading through it, according to reliable sources, it is just about anybody who has ever had anything to do with managing a football club... :D

I heard that Roman Abram***** was watching the East Timor national team play recently, couldn't be looking at any of the players, so it must be the manager he's after......... don't tell "The Sun" or they will make it an "Exclusive"

Chelsea off the pitch is currently like watching a soap opera like Dynasty or Dallas !
However,on the pitch the entertainment stops and we are treated to a dour display by a group of mercenary whingers ! Being happening for a few seasons now.

Another rumour is that they are going to buy Fernando Torres from Liverpool for 50m in the close season.
Personally I think theres more chance of Irish Alan announcing he's bought a season ticket at Old Trafford ! :D :D

Looks like the Chelsea managers post is a straight fight between Mancini and Mark Hughes, who would be a good choice IMO.
I'm sure us non Chelsea fans would much rather they chose Steve McClaren ! :D

But another rumour.....Sepp Blatter is proposing that by 2012 teams will be limited to 5 foreigners in the side.
Where will that leave Arsenal & Chelsea ? In the Championship, hopefully !

No problems ....... they will just register everyone in the world as a british national at birth, then when they grow up and can play football they can sign them. Its just an extention of what the british govt has been doing for years !!

The 'limited to 5 foreigners' rule is a real non starter. As UK are part of EU all EU players must (by law) be classified as 'non foreigners'. That leaves Africa (any that want to seem to be able to gain quick citizenship through France) and South America (any that want to can gain quick citizenship through Portugal or Spain) so only Asia, North America & Australasia will actually be foreigners!!!
His previous thoughts were that 5 players must have been brought up through the clubs youth program, but that seems to have fallen by the way side as well :(
